When the machines are put together at the factory they stay in factory mode until the tech presses the FN key and X key together.

Unplug the system and remove the battery. Hold the power button for 30 seconds. Then try powering up -- if it won't, you've damaged the mainboard, and you'll need to replace it.

I have dell latitude d610. when turned on screen shows "manufacturing mode level 67" & system halts

Hi, I have done some research on this issue, I would suggest giving the following a try:

Plug the charger in.

On start up keep tapping either F1, F2, F10,(Be Aware that some manufacturers use F10 for system recovery!) Esc, or Del, to enter the BIOS set-up. Look for "Factory Default" or similar, and return the settings to default. Save settings and exit.

Unplug, remove the battery and press the power button for 10 seconds.
Restart.

Manufacturing mode: level (67) press fn-x to return the system to normal running mode. the amount of system memory has changed.

Sounds like a bad memory stick, or badly seated memory. Try opening the cover where the memory reside, take it out (gently) and put it back in. See if that fixes it. Try also pressing F12 as the machine boots up and go into the diagnostics menu. Test the memory to see if you have a failing memory stick. Laptop memory is quite cheap these days, so don't worry if the memory is faulty - it's easy to replace it.
