Download latest version of itunes, then go to edit>preferences> devices, and tick the box prevent ipod syncing automatically,
that should do it.

You asked how to prevent itunes from automatically syncing with the iPod, now please be clear as what you want to do if you want to add new music to your iPod then drag and drop files into the iPod icon. that will add music to your iPod. If you select automatic sync you WILL LOSE everything on your iPod that isnt on your PC.
    There is a back door.
You will need to allow view hidden files and folders in window explorer, find your iPod via my computer, explore the ipod until you find music/media open the folder and copy all content to your pc, now go to itunes and select files>add folder to library then itunes will copy all the files to the library. When finished delete all the files since they are safe in the itunes folder and enjoy!

All of a sudden after 2 years annot get my iPod to appear on computer. A sign comes up that says "The iPod "Lois' iPod" is synced with another iTunes Library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with...

This happens some times the computer has lost the record that the ipod was synced with this computer.

Because the ipod can only be synced with one computer at a time your are getting this message.

if you look in your itunes music library and all the muisc is still there then choose the "erase and sync option" this will erase the ipod and re- sync with this computer -

if your muisc is gone you have a much larger problem you need to search your computer for your missing music then add it back to itune when you find it by :

In itunes you go to the upper left to : File > add Folder to Library > and choose the folder the music is in this will re- add your music to the libray then you can " "erase and sync"

If all you music is gone off your computer a only on your ipod your going to have to download a free ipod rip program to remove all you muisc and put it back into your library. there are free ones you can downalod but they are hard to find I have used www.ipodrescue.com and it worked for me

good luck !

How can i download songs to my ipod?

First you need to install Itunes on your pc. Then plug your Ipod into your pc. The pc should recognize it and you can name your product (ex. MY IPOD, or whatever you want to call your device). If you have acquired a used ipod from someone then it will ask you to erase and sync. You can only have your ipod synced to one library. You then need to load your itunes with the music you want on your player. This is fairly straight forward process. You can either load files onto it or insert a cd in and rip the music to your itunes. Once you have the music in your library plug your ipod in the library will recognize it and sync the entire library to your player or you can make playlists to sync certain songs to it.... hope this helps

My husband put some music on my ipod nano about 1 month ago. when he went back to add music to my ipod it locked him out and will not let him do anything. how do i fix this

You need to restore your Ipod .... This will erase all content on the ipod. The ipod can only be synced to one itunes account. This is a pretty easy fix for you. Your ipod is a nano so the max space you can have is 16gb. Just connect your ipod to your itunes account erase and sync it with your library you will need to add any additional songs from your husbands library to your library if you want them on your player ... or if your spouse has all the music that you want on your ipod just sync the nano to his library hope this helps

I have a classic ipod ,somehow I managed to put all the music in my Itunes into my ipod ,My Itunes is now empty , and when I turn my ipod on , there is no music to play ? yet my gig usage says there is , I...

You probably have "automatically syn my music to ipod" option turned on. That means, whenever you plug it in, the ipod synchronizes with your itunes library. If you have no music in your library, the ipod will delete all the songs on its hard drive. Be sure to turn this option off in the future.

Ipod

Itunes will ask you if this ipod comes from another computer (since you formatted) and ask you if you wanna erase all thats on it and synchronise with the new llibray (probably empty !). You say NO. Then you synchronise manually by unchecking the box that says to synchronise automatically and thenn u check the box that says to mange manually the ipod. By doing that you're music that was on you're ipod will stay there, and you can coopy any new music towards you're ipod with itunes.
