Most likely related to the blue screen issues. a possible reinstall of the OS may be needed. To check if it is blue screen related, restart the computer, press F8 when system restarts, then select the option to disable auto-restart option on the advanced options menu and press Enter. Next time you use the system, see if it will still auto-restart or if you'll get a blue screen. If there is an error, a system rstore or OS repair or reinstall may also be needed.

not sure if this has been sorted out, but press/tap F8 a few times while the computer is restarting. You will not see any message about it, just tap F8 a few times when the computer/Windows is restarting until yuo get to the Advanced Options menu

That's an interesting problem. It sounds like it's applying new display settings, but I'm not sure why it would do so over and over again. I would suggest trying to start Windows in "Safe Mode". To do that, as the computer is booting, hold down the F8 key to get the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. Maybe this will get you to a normal login screen. If so, you should try to change your display settings to the simplest possible and then reboot. I hope this helps.

Yes, most likely. When a computer reboots randomly, it is usually some hardware malfunction, but when it shuts down completely, it is almost always heat-related. The CPU fan is usually the first place to look!

Laptop randomly shuts down

Random shutdowns can be hardware or software related. General advice is as follows:
Go to support.dell.com and download the latest BIOS Flash, Video Driver and audio driver for your system and install them, once installed and rebooted see if the issue is resolved.
If not, start, run MSCONFIG, edit the entries in the startup group disabling all except antivirus entries, reboot and see if any change.
If issue no longer occurs, then you can add items back one at a time until you isolate items that cause the issue.
If the software editing has had no effect, try ram modules individually (System will operate on one) and see if issue is isolated to one module or slot.

if you're not getting the blue screen of death it sounds like a hardware fault. If it's not too old contact dell. It could be something stupid like a duff battery connection

Inspiron 1000 green lights come on, no fans, blank dark screen, no cursor

Check your RAM chips. A bad RAM chip will cause this symptom. Could also be a bad MB. But check the RAM first since it's a much cheaper fix. Might also just need to be reseated. After reseating, pull the battery and power cord. Press the power button for about 10 seconds. Then reinstall battery and power cord and try to reboot. If symptom persists, it's likely the MB.

Dell inspiron 1720 reboots randomly

there are several reasons why a pc restarts: 1. there might be a virus that causes this, thry to scan your computer using the updated anti virus. 2. your power supply might be faulty, if your pc frequently restarts the 12volts supply is having a problem, you need to replace the power supply. 3. operating system error, you need to repair your OS. what i have suspected from the problem you relayed is that your power supply, you need to replace this.
