If you see the DirecTv 's menu and whatever then the tv is functioning OK it receives and displays whatever the box is sending it. There's something wrong with the box. This is easy to test: just plug in a dvd player (ideally on the same connectors as the DirecTv box) or just even an antenna and try to view something from them. If you can then the box has issues - check that the card is correctly inserted and that the box didn't had it parental filtering activated. If they appear OK then  try a full reset. Finally call DirecTV for a new box, this one is faulty , or at least in need of a good TLC.

I would suspect the lamp is your problem. I wouldn't worry about it until you put the new one in. Then if it doesn't work you can worry, but don't worry needlessly.

Hi,Osram lamps average around 3000-4000 hrs.Normally 1 -1 1/2 yr.I do think the lamp went out.The ballast is a possibility, when it's going bad it will make clicking noises or attempts to light the bulb.I recommend to get the Original Philips lamp for they average 6000-8000 hrs 3-4 yrs.

KDF46E2000 - Change Lamp Warning - Reset

Bulb is most likely OK. Original bulb in Sony TV is Philips, label on bulb usually says Philips. Sony don't make bulbs. Sony Cost is usually 1.5 times other sources. Many shopping cart operations sell condemned, reject or poor quality electronic service items because cost of return and fooling with them is excessive. This is obvious and widespread with convergence ICs and other parts.

Lamp timer needs reset. This is usually an automatic function. TV detects Increased lamp current from previous failed bulb or weak bulb condition and resets automatically. TV must be unplugged for lamp replacement for this to work. Occasionally it must be reset manually, as below:

1. TV must be in standby mode. (Power off).
2. Press the following buttons on the Remote Commander within a
second of each other:
DISPLAY Channel 5 Volume + POWER .1. Access Service Adjustment Mode and select the Service Menu that
contains the Category with the Adjustment Item you want to change.
2. To change the Category, press 2 or 5 on the Remote Commander.
Note: Pressing 2 or 5 only changes the categories within the
Service Menu displayed. To change a Category on one of the other
Service Menus, press the JUMP button until the correct Service
Menu is displayed.
3. To change the Adjustment Item, press 1 or 4 on the Remote
Commander.
4. To change the Data Value, press 3 or 6 on the Remote
Commander.
Note: To go back to the last saved Data Value, press 0 then ENT
on the Remote Commander to read the memory.
5. To save the changes, press MUTING then ENT to write into
memory.
6. To exit service mode, turn the power off by pressing POWER .
Wait 2 minutes before restarting the set to allow the fans to
completely shut down or the Service Menu will appear on the screen.

It sounds like you have a faulty optics block. It usually shows up as a reddish bar going accross the top 1/3 of the TV. If this is the case you are in luck as Sony has extended the warranty for these faulty units. Click on the following link for information..

Just got the "lamp bulb soon kaput message" on my sony t.v. kdf 50E2000. I took it to a shop for the SAME problem a few months ago! It was nearly $400 to fix. Any suggestions?

Mine was $300+/- at BestBuy...got the bulb on eBay & replaced it myself for $70. It was actually very simple, too. If you no longer have the Owners Manual... http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KDF50E2000 & you can read or download. Mine is a Toshiba, but the manual gave excellent instructions. Best of luck!
