Hi there I have recently bought a 5.1 ministry of sound surround sound system but when i connect it via optical cable to my ps3 it just makes this god awful humming sound....Im really disapointed because...

What's the model number? Did it come with a manual and did you refer to it and the PS3 to make sure what you're doing is right?

Describe the source(s) that produce the 'hum'. Perhaps what you describe as "hum" is digital bitstream noise (DTS not decoded). The source is always a player in any audio scenario.

Describe your RCA Audio Shelf System Problem

If you have cleaned the CD lens using a cotton swab and alcohol and it continues to skip, try cleaning the rails that the optics assembly rides on using a clean cotton swab. Sometimes the grease on the rail gets contaminated with dust and that causes the optics assembly to stick a bit. The motor that moves the optics assembly will generate more torque and when the optics finally move, they overshoot the target position. This results in a loss of information that you hear as a skip.

If neither suggestion works, please update this and we'll try another option.

Configure front panel audio

Look up the configuration in the manual for the motherboard. It will give you the location of the header set and the pinout. If there is no front audio panel you must jump 4 pins to force the audio to the rear ports. It should describe this in the manual aswell.
