Question about Intel DG965SS Motherboard

2 Answers

My DG965SS mother board just shuts down when it want to. Some times it will just reboot right in the middle of whatever and some times it tries to reboot but freezes on the start back. I have reformated the SATA drive and reloaded windows XP Pro. While still loading some of the drivers it will shut down and lock. I have finally gotten the drivers loaded and still the same thing. Sometimes it will let you work for a minute or maybe 15 minutes and sometimes just 2 minutes and then BAM shuts down. It seemed to be locking on the DVD Burner so I disconnected that and it helped for a minute but not much.

1. Blow the dust on the motherboard and on the SMPS.
(don't use vacuum side) if possible use the soft brush to remove the hard dust.
2. Remove the cpu heatsink carefully, clean and replace the heat sink compound. (Take the help of a guide or service engineer)
3. Open the memory from the slots and replace it back after cleaning.
4. The above should solve the problem, finally replace the SMPS or get the motherboard tested.

Hello
I have a intel dg33bu.Have a look at the internel fans. Are they clean.
The processor fan and heat sink need to be clean of dust and dirt.
Last- It may be a good idea to put some fresh thermal paste on the processor.
What you are describing sounds like a heat issue, runs, heats up then shuts down.

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

try a hard shut down by holding power button down till computer shuts off. if this doesn't work unplug from power source and see if you can reboot. of can't reboot. may have problem with mother board. this then goes beyond my scope.

I have DG965SS mother board and I am about to buy video card PCI-E , what I need to do to have this card working and not using the on-board craphic ?

When you already purchased a new PCIE card for it what you need to do is to just plug the video card to the mother and then power it on and computer will automatically disable the onboard video card and then once computer is up run the setup disc for the new video card and install all the software for it and you;re ready to go now.

I think it is a prob with the mother board.........no need t change RAM or hard drive........they dont cause this type of prob. Ur mother board is not accepting the shutdown command.
Try the following command in command prompt:

shutdown /s /f

Emachines w2828 keeps shutting down reboot/Screen Freeze

I dont thing this is a virus problem but a heat problem. if you dont mind getting inside the box see how clean it is and put your hand on the power box case .. then unplug all the hardware except the mother board then turn the unit on, if it goes on then plug 1 hardware at a time.

No power

This suggestion is a real long shot but at least it something you can try. It sounds like you've already ruled out all the other stuff I was going to suggest. Try replacing the CMOS battery on the mother board. It's one of those large flat batteries about the size of a nickel.
