Hi tony_pipi_sm.
It seems that the issue might be due to the "Plug and play" Drivers for the Canon Camera.
However, please let me know the exact Model # of the Canon Camera, so that I can provide you the required troubleshooting steps.
However, it would be better to connect to your Computer remotely and resolve the issue.
This issue might also require some advanced troubleshooting steps.
Hence, it would be better to come online through "Fixya Live Chat".
Hope this helps.
Please feel free to contact for further information and assistance.

Hello Tony,

It seems that Windows 7, particular 64 bit Windows 7 (and Vista64 bit) and your firewire hardware are not quite playing nicely. This has been an issue on some systems.

Here is a tip that I found on the net that may help you:
1. Go into device manager and select 1394 Bus Host Controllers,

2. Click plus sign, which should reveal your firewire card, right click on it and select the update driver, option.

3.Select browse my computer for driver software.

4. Select " let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer",

5.Select 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (legacy)

Though I don't have experience with your particular model, this next trick has helped me in the past with both firewire and usb DV issues.

Plug your camera in, launch your corel application. Start camera playback, preferably from the computer if able, manually if you can't. If you still are not getting the DV feed from the camera, unplug the firewire cable, and plug back in. It may start working then.

Try another firewire cable first. Then try another firewire adapter / card. If that doesn't work, get Canon back onto the line and explain to them what you have done, and what else needs to be done.

Does the camera work on a different computer? There may be a problem with the camera itself.

You can, you just need a program that will lower the quality.
Do you have any video editing software or DVD authoring software?

I would recommend MovieFactory 6 Plus or VideoStudio X2 Pro from
You can download free trials from, but I don't think they sell X2 Pro anymore they are now up to X3 and I am not sure how well it works.

No disc for my JVC Everio GZ-HD7U

You don't need the disc. Buy Corel's latest videostudio x2 for editing. To extract the video files from camera just plug into computer with USB cable and search the camera for files.
