Question about Singer 7444 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

While I was sewing the machine started to display the number 88 while sewing for no apparent reason. Also the wheel feels tight. I do not want to use until I find out what is causing this.

I would try rethreading the machine completely and change to a new needle. If, it is not listed in your manual go to singerco.com and see if it is listed under frequently asked questions. Their customer service is very good, call 1-800-4singer. Good luck, hope it is not a serious problem

Why is my thread breaking?

This was happening to me when I put new needle and I just checked tension on bobbin thread and for some reason it was to tight, adjusted to make looser as shown in manual and the tread stopped breaking.

Machine wheel is very tight and hard to turn

not knowing your machine make or model, I can only suggest that you are having "tension" issues. Most machines have tension control located around the wheel, sort of like a second very thin wheel. This type usually requires that you would hold the wheel in place while moving the 2nd wheel to make the adjustment.

Other machines have the tension control looking like a push button. Maybe in the middle of one of the other tenstion wheels. pushing that button in while turning that and/or other control wheels would help that.

I may also be that your machine just needs to be oiled. Fabric stores will have this oil and it is specially formulated for sewing machine parts. More is less w this type of oil.

T ake a look all around and even under the machine, hopefully you will find a number for tech support for your machine.

Good Luck and Happy Sewing!

As I am sewing, it suddenl stalls, starts beeping and the number 88 appears on the display and it doesnt move.

I have looked through your manual online and I cannot see anywhere an error code list. I would call Singer at 1-800-4singer for an answer. That is crazy, you can't fix a problem if you do not know what is wrong.

I purchased a Ingenuity Singer Sewing Machine The machine will not wind a bobbin. I put the bobbin on the winder and sometimes it won?t activate when I push it to the right and other times it when it does...

Sometimes it is a simple thing like a faulty bobbin, there is a very small piece of plastic that the winder has to catch and if it is worn or broken or just plain faulty then the bobbin will not turn

Need manual to know how to set tension. Singer Sewing machine Mod.#5932 Serial#N319411147

Singer Machines are probably the easiest to set..
first thing you need to do is remove the thread..
Set you tension knob/wheel to the middle number.
When you rethread the machine, stop when you get to needle. Put the presser foot down and pull the thread. If it pulls hard then so far so good. If it pulls easily, the thread is not thru the tension wheel right. Thread the needle and stitch about 10 inches on a medium wt fabric.
The stitching should feel even on both sides. If the top still is tight, loosen it up just 1/2 number.
So, if your middle number is 4.5, turn it to 4. If it seems loose, turn it to 5.

My start/stop switch will not begin sewing

Is the problem with embroidery only? If with both sewing and embroidery function and there is no error code (just 00) on the display, my wife experienced the same problem. There was an internal sensor that was bad. The sewing machine shop repaired with a new Singer part. Part was about $20, labor was $180.
