Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

My condenser will turn on like normal run good then when it hits the set temp. On th t stat. The condenser will shut off for 5 sec. Try to turn back on . This will happen 4 or 5 times then it will run for another half hour then it will shut off until it hits the next cycle. I have already changed the t stat and it didn't solve the problem.

This sounds to me like the unit is a bit low on coolant, and fluctuating and struggling to satisfy the thermostat settings. If this pattern happens, roughly, every time, I would bet that's what's going on. Make sure your coils are clean.
Here is an excerpt from essortment.com:
Another problem could be that the inside condenser fins might be clogged also because it caught the debris from the dirty air filter. There are special fin brushes you can buy to get the majority of it cleaned.
3. In addition, a low freon pressure could also be the culprit. The ideal pressure reading should be around 65-70 psi so you will need freon gauges to get a reading from the high side (the larger of the two freon lines). Freon can slowly escape from the outside unit over time. That is why the unit must be serviced occasionally. A set of pressure gauges can be bought if you want to check the psi yourself, but you will not be able to add freon. The reason for this is because you need an EPA license to work with freon. If you do need freon, companies will charge somewhere around $18 per pound per unit to install.

Good luck, hope this helps, and thanks for using FixYa.

This is very incorrect information i hope i never see this again. There is no such thing as saying the ideal pressure reading. You forget we have 2 common refrigerants now 410a and the now in phase out r-22. Refrigerant should never have to be added as part of a maintenance. Refrigerant should never be slowly escaping ever, this is a huge issue, when you refrigerant leaks it can take on both moisture and non condensibles, this can cause acid wear and corrosion along with poor lubrication overheating and premature failure of the compressor. Refrigerant charging is a highly precise process and requires the understanding of pressure temperature relationships and super heating and sub-cooling process that occurs i the refrigerant system.

On another note you could have the wrong meting device or no meting device but if that was the case this issue would have been there since day 1. Now its also possible your transformer is over heating, you could have a backed up drain and be tripping your float switch if you have one, IF your refrigerant was low and it would only cut the unit off if it had a pressure switch. And caution refrigerant is dangerous and can cause chemical burns along with frostbite if your not careful. Please take this information into consideration when handling refrigerant.

The larger of the two refrigerant lines is the low side not the high side. That is what you should be reading. The smaller line is the high side. On the gauges that will be the blue one. The red one is the high side. Too cold to get accurate readings now anyway!!!

RTH2310b thermostat not heating to temperature set, I turn it off and back on, it runs few minutes then shuts off not heating to temp set on thermostat

All thermostats have a "Differential" setting that causes the thermostat to turn off early as an energy saving feature to blow all the hot air out before the furnace fan shuts down. On some stats, there is a switch on the back for setting this and some have a programming choice for setting this time. Others have no setting but normally start the heat about 2 or 3 degrees below the set-point and shut it off 2 degrees above. In this case it would be called a 5 degree differential. Look for these as described and adjust it up 2 degrees if found. Good luck.

Heil heating unit ran out of lp will no restart fan runs no fire up

if you ran out of lp you my need to purge the line. shut off power and crack gas line as close to gas valve as you can.try a 5 sec. count. reconnent and check connenction with soapy water for leaks. if none return power and turn t stat up. if it cycles and doesn't lite turn t stat down and then recycle may take 2-3 times. the fan runs on a timer. when the t stat is in demand the fan will run by turning the t stat down below room temp the fan will shut off.

It doesn't want to shut off and we have no heat?

when you say it doesnt want to shut off i'm guessing you mean the fan. the fans run on a timer when the thermostat calls for heat it will come on 90-120 sec.later. turn your t stat down below room temp and it will shut off in 30-60 sec.your ignitor is most likly bad. turn your t stat back up and look at it. it should glow. furnace will try to light 3 times, you may hear the gas flow for 3 sec.during this cycle. if no glow good chance that is your problem and you will need to replace it.be carefull it is very brittle and breaks easy if tapped. be sure to turn the t stat down again or the fan will start running again.

this can be caused by several issues (1) Configuration program, this is not the program that you the end user set up for time of day programing. Nor set point. but how the T-stat is set up to operate for your particular system, A dead band change my be necessary.in most programable T-stats the system must get temp 1 degree below set point before the system will shut down (2) A relay can be sticking in the condenser unit keeping the compressor on when there is not a call for cooling. for this a good working knoledge of electricity is a must although the t-stat opeates on 24 volts there is high voltage in close proxcimity of control relays ranging from 120 too 240 volts (3) dust on the temp sensor can also be an issue dust act as an insulator not allowing the sensor too sense the Temp properly. (4) or that T-stat can and possibly has failed Electronic T-stat are suseptable too power surges although this is not a frequent occurance it is possible. I would reccomend having your local HVAC contractor check into this. depending on you Mechanical skill

Hi, the tech should have been able to figure the stat out with out a manual to see why the condenser is shutting off at 1:00 P.M. This is unusual for this to happen, unless it was winter and this is a heat-pump going into defrost, but just the fan would shut down. Does this unit have a box on it that was installed by your electric company that shuts the unit off during high peak conditions in the summer? This would cause it to shut down at the same time everyday. If not, it would have to be something in the thermostat that is set for it to shut off at that time. It still does not make since, as it would shut both the indoor and outdoor unit off, not just the condenser. Are you saying that just the condenser fan motor is shutting off, but the compressor continues to run until it shuts off on high head pressure when the fan stops, or does the complete outdoor unit shut down fan, compressor and all at that time??. It sounds to me like this outdoor unit has a time delay relay that has a fault in it may be shutting it off at this time daily? Please let me know if its just the condenser fan motor that shuts off, or if the complete unit is shutting off all together, this will help .
Sincerely,

The refrigerator and the frezzer stop working. I have power because the lights are working normally. Can i fix it.

Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Ac set at 74 room temp up to 78 and no Ac kicking on.

it could be the thermostat is loose on the subbase or if you went from OFF to COOL and the stat is a digital stat It will not come on for five min. This is a delay set by the manufacture to protect the compressor. during normal operation you will not notice because thier will be more than 5 min from the time it shuts of till it need to come back on but if the system switch is set to off and you switch to cool or unit just shut off it will always delay 5min. usualy there will be some insdiction on the screen that it is in delay like a flashing COOL or SNOW FLAKE or the word WAIT. the unit will not be running until the flashing words go solid

Freezer freezes but does ever stop running

thermostat is stuck on! set to medium setting and gently tap stat. does it turn off? it was stuck. does it still run? its still stuck. if you feel comfortable find stat and power in and out. disconnect - it has to turn off then. but 99 % of the time its the stat. they fail closed and run 24 -7 or fail open and temps get real hot and they never close and restart compressor . yours appears to have failed closed. sometimes you can firmly twist em max cold to min cold a few times and break the stuck contacts and they'll do ok for a while. try to reset at a little higher or warmer temp when done so its not making and breaking on the same old worn spot again. good luck.
