Assuming you were careful to take off the little strip of cellophane tape that protects the ink from coming out of the cartridge, then I suggest you open a document and type a few words and choose ONLY yellow as the color. It will either activate the cartridge or you'll know that you have a sensor/software problem and not a hardware problem.

Good Luck

I will tell you my problem and the solution ( sorry for my english ). I started with the tipical error 0x
To repair this i found in this web:
1- Turn off power and unplug from power source.
2- Open right side of printer (looking at the front).
3- Disconnect,by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main circuit board.
4- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok".
    5- Unplug power source.
6- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board.
7- Plug in power source and turn printer on (Printer preparing occurred).
8- voila, the nasty error message 0xc18a0001 "Ink System has Failed" is now gone.

Well, the error dissapeared but the machine detect the cyan and magenta ink levels empty, but they were new cartridges, so i bought two new cartridges and the ink levels was ok, but the magenta color not print, and if i put the old cartridge again the ink levels of theese were ok, but the magenta color not print. I was going to throw away the printer but in some web i saw that the printer have a battery like cmos battery in a pc, so i open the printer and there was the battery. The battery is under de upper cover, at the right side. I removed the battery, wait 5 minutes and put it in. I closed the printer again and the ink levels were ok again and magenta print too.
So i think that this printer is the very best **** made in this world. I will never buy hp printers :).

SOURCE: Printer thinks cartridges empty

Unplug your printer from the computer and then the power supply. Remove the inks from the printer. Plug the printer back into the computer first then connect the power supply. Install the inks "very slowly" one by one and then check the levels, they should now read full. Thank you, Dana

SOURCE: HP C6280 with new ink cartridges shows cartridges empty

First make sure you are placing the right
color cartridge into the right slot.
Most Printers are touchy about the
installation of ink cartridges. If the
instructions say to press the cartridge
into the slot until you hear a loud click,
that's what they mean. If at first you
don't succeed, remove the cartridge and
reinsert it into the slot again and press
on it hard till it clicks.
Then your printer should work properly.
Hope this is of some help. Bud

I have a HP 8259 printer and it indicates the yellow print cartridge needs to be replaced even when i install a new cartridge. It will not let me print in color or black/grayscale. I have had the printer...

Older printers can do funny things. It is probable that the little copper contacts on the ink cartridge are not making good contact with the printer which is giving bad information to the computer that the ink cartridge is empty. A two year old printer may have some corrosion on the printer's contacts. Remove the ink cartridge and use a soft pencil eraser to clean the printer's contacts.

Printer keeps telling me that the yellow cart is empty and I have put a new one in

Are you positive it says the yellow cart is empty? Because that brother printer is designed to say that a cartridge is empty whenever ANY of the color cartridges are empty. Usually it doesn't tell you which one is really empty either. So even if you replaced the yellow cartridge and say, the black cartridge is empty, it still won't let you print until you replace that empty black cartridge, nor will you know which of the cartridges is empty unless you pull them out of the printer and manually check the ink levels.

Its pretty much a guessing game with those old brother ink printers.

Hope this helps :)

I replaced an ink cartridge because the printer stopped working and showed a message that the old cartridge is empty. However after putting the new one in but the printer still refuses to work and shows...

maybe the cartridge is wrong, release it and clean the electrical contacts, put them again one by one, if notting happen, try this
Solution As the printer operates, it moves ink from the ink cartridges into a printhead reservoir. The printer does not deliver a message when an ink cartridge goes empty, because it still has ink in the reservoir. The printer continues printing until the ink level in the reservoir falls to a first trigger point - then a message appears advising the printer owner to Replace Cartridges Soon . At this point, other cartridges that are empty but have not reached the trigger point are also mentioned in the message, to save trips to the retailer. After the first trigger point, the printer can continue printing until ink levels in the reservoir reach a second trigger point. At the second trigger point there is only enough ink left to perform vital servicing tasks, and a new message appears, saying Ink Cartridges Empty . The options offered depend on the usable inks remaining. If no options are offered, the cartridges indicated must be replaced before printing can continue. The Ink Cartridges Empty options are described in the table below: Ink colors out Option Print mode possible All Cancel None Black

AND

Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all) Black only Continue with other colors Cyan/Magenta/Yellow mode (composite black)

Text and photo quality will differ from those printed when all colors are available Light Cyan or Light Magenta (either or both) Cyan, Magenta, or Yellow (any or all)

(Black still available) Print with black ink only Grayscale

For some reason my HP Officeject Pro K8600 is reading empty yellow ink cartridge even after I replace it. I have replaced the cartridge several times with a new cartridge but it still won't work. Why? ...

The mount that holds the spring for the yellow ink cartridge pump arm in the service station is probably broken. You will have to replace the ink-service station.

unplug mfc from power outlet. take all carts out and leave scanner open. wait a minute. replug to power. wait until machine demands carts. insert one after another and ANSWER display! Close cover.

NEVER change cart until mfc stopps printing (near empty is a reminder to buy new ones :-))
