Make sure the button that turns on the top is all the way turned to the right. I have had similar instance where the button was slightly turned and it did not work.

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.
From what you've described in your question, it sounds very likely that you have a blockage somewhere between the cleaner head and the bin. Please follow the steps shown in the video above to locate any obstructions from the cleaner head, and to remove any threads or hair from around the brush bar.
Once you've done this, it's also a good idea to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide for help locating blockages in the internal hose:

Best way to clean a laminate "wood" floor. I use Pine Sol and lately have been noticing streak marks and dullness.

The old standby of glass cleaner should do the trick. Use a spray bottle, and spray a small 4x4 section at a time, let it sit for about 2min. , then wipe up with rags. Do NOT let it dry on the floor. You have a buildup of product on the floor. The pine cleaner has a small amount of oil in it and it builds up over time. For a good glass cleaner- I would suggest ZEP glass cleaner. For daily cleaning- I would suggest white vinegar 1 part vinegar to 3 parts HOT water. It will sanitize, and also remove salt stains from the floor left by winter boots and dog footprints.

Does not seem to adjust to different carpet sizes

Hi Denise,

DC14 is engineered to adjust automatically to suit the type of flooring you're using it on. You can also use the brush control on the cleaner head to turn the brushbar on for vacuuming carpets, and off for vacuuming hard floors.

However, if you're concerned the cleaner doesn't seem to be working correctly, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide to identify and resolve any issues:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=626&product=DC14-ANIMAL_US

If you've tried this and still feel the cleaner isn't picking up as well as usual, please get in touch with us directly so we can help - you can call us free on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your Dyson upright cleaner. Our advice would depend on which model you own, which you haven't specified in your question. If your cleaner doesn't seem to have as much suction as normal, you may find it helpful to check for blockages and wash the filter.

I've bought a dyson dc07 upright vacuum and need to know how to get suction through the hose as opposed to the main machine.

Hi there,

When the cleaner is standing in the upright position, it's engineered to divert suction automatically from the cleaner head to the hose. The correct way to use the hose, wand and dusting tools is shown in the user guide:

http://media.dyson.com/downloads/us/floorcare/manuals/dc07_opmanual_usa.pdf

If there doesn't seem to be any suction coming through the hose when the cleaner is standing upright, you may need to check the machine for blockages. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=4&product=DC07-SY-HEPA_US

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash, as demonstrated in the video below. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without any detergents, and always make sure the filter is totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

I have the bissell pro heat turbo microban cleaner. It's about 2 1/2 years old and maybe used 8 times. The brushes do not work and it's not suctioning up the water. I've checked the belt on...

You already said it, so check the carbon brushes. Once it is no longer able to push the rotor or stator it need to be replace. Carbon brushes are customized at the machine shop, so you should bring it so that you have a sample of the brushes itself. Just be observant when disassembling the motor so that you put it back to exact place.
Thanks for asking.

The motor seems to overheat and smell a bit like burning.runs noisily too.this only seems to have happened since I used the small turbo brush for the first time ever on the stairs.

Check that there is no build up of fluff or debris in the machine. If the motor is getting hot its cos its not getting enough air ... through obstruction... probably you have something like a screw etc thats touching moving parts and restricting flow. Dont run machine hot... allow to cool right down before switching on again.
