Hi,

Your Nikon Coolpix 3200 Digital Camera is equipped with a AF assist illuminator which makes focus easier when shooting in darker situations.

In spite of that, on occasion, it is quite possible that the camera will fail to achieve sharp auto-focus.

Point and Shoot cameras use a contrast-based focusing system: this works only when the contrast in the composition is high.

When you press the shutter halfway down the camera attempts to focus, but if it shows red brackets it implies that the focus has not been achieved.
Please take care to note this indication, and if you do not see the Green "Focus Lock" indicator, please attempt to recompose the shot.

Release the shutter, press halfway through again and wait for a focus lock.

The sensor on a P&S camera is very small (about 8-9x smaller in surface area compared to DSLRs)
In low light conditions achieving focus can be a challenge for P&S cameras.
These are technical limitations which are not specific to your camera but common to all cameras in the same segment across various camera manufacturers.

Camera constantly takes blurred pictures

Appears that the auto focus mechanism is not working, This anomaly is most obvious in lower light situations when focusing is much more critical.

If the camera was new and two months old I would either return it for another one or have Nikon repair the lens assembly under the terms of its warranty.

The picture are blurred and even in 10MP mode the resolution is very poor. the pictures lack complete sharpness.

Try resetting all the functions on your camera first. If that still doesn't work then you probably have a problem with the auto focus unit in your camera. Contact an authorized Nikon service center for further information.

I have a nikon 55-200mm lens for the D40X digital camera. The pictures I take are blurred. I use the auto settings. the 18-55mm lens works fine and there are no problems with the picture clarity. Is the...

One of a few things might be happening
1. Photos being taken at high zoom (i.e. 200mm) are susceptible to camera shake, even though the lens is focusing properly. The solution here is use a tripod, zoom out, or steady yourself.
2. Photos being taken without flash when flash should really be used will result in motion blur (which is slightly different than camera shake). This is due to the camera using a longer shutter speed to let more light in, with the side effect being that objects will move while the shutter is open, blurring the picture. The solution here is to use a flash, or take pictures in better light.
3. The camera may be focusing on something other than what you intended.
3. If you are taking photos in good light with a steady hand, and the camera is choosing the correct subject to focus on, then yes, the lens could need readjusted, though this is not a very likely scenario.
If the lens is "hunting" for focus, that could be a sign that something is amiss.
A local camera shop can verify the accuracy of focus for your lens.

2 problems. I have the Coolpix L100. Sometimes my photos are blurry and also. there is a delay when I snap a photo which isnt good when trying to get action photos.

With autofocus digital cameras, blurred photos are almost always a result of camera shake. You need to hold the camera still even after pressing the button, as there is often a short delay before the shutter fires.

Many digital cameras have a two-stage shutter press- first pressure causes the camera to focus, then the follow through pressure takes the picture. If you are rushing this, you may get unfocussed shots.

If you take lots of action pictures, you will have to work on a technique of partially pressing the shutter to get focus in anticipation of the shot (perhaps focussing on where the action will occur), then holding it part-pressed until the moment you want to capture. This is really no more of a problem than setting an anticipatory focus on a manual focussing film camera use to be. Some more complex digital cameras will allow you to turn off auto focus and focus manually.

After taking pictures it come out blurry

1) Make sure all settings are set to "Auto".
2) The picture button has 2 stages, it takes a little practice, but after a while you can feel them.

The first stage tells the camera you're about to take a photo so get to it, setup the focus and set up the exposure setting.

The second executes the photo.

3) What you have to do is pause between stages 1 and 2 to give the camera a moment to focus properly. Then continue with taking the shot.

4) The other thing which can cause blurred photo's is camera shake, try and hold it as still as you can.

Blurred pictures in auto mode

it is probably a camera shake problem. Consider using a tripod. Also, using higher ISO helps..Using flash helps too.

Auto-focus isn't working

Try checking your settings for the type of shot you are taking and for the type of focus......
type of shot is the dial on the top, and then:
1) menu, metering
and also check your autofocus mode
2)menu, autofocus; try the single autofocus, it might be set to continual

Also, you could try updating the firmware in your camera. You do this through the Nikon website.
