Question about Canon PowerShot S400 / IXUS 400 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a powershot S400. similar to one of the previous posts, the camera first started showing a pink hue in the center (1/3) column of the viewer, which would occassionaly show up on the snapshot. Now that problem has digressed considerably to distortion. first the center 1/3 of the image on the vieing screen will start to take on a pink hue. then the same area will appear to "melt" with pixels of the original image streeking down. sometimes I take a picture and it comes out perfectly fine, in spight of what was visible on the viewer, and othr times it will capture the distortion in the snapshot. sometimes I can tap the side of the cmera, or even squeeze it and it will correct itself, possibly indicating a poorly seated chip or connection. I am an Electrical Engineer, and the camera is long out of warrentee, so I opened it and reseated any accessible ribbon cables in hopes that it was simply a poor connection, but this had no affect.

Sound like this one. At least Canon europe still fixes it if it is manufactured 2002-2004.

Overall pink cast and pink stipe at top of all images taken.

Never had that camera, however, had the same problem -- the pink stripe and pink cast. Turns out the lens cover was slightly cracked and not opening and closing properly. Thus -- the pink cast.
