Question about Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 Notebook

1 Answer

After windows 7 installation I cannot turn off the touchpad. I prefer to have it off while I type, and when I used Vista (which the machine came with) I'd use a menu called up by the Fn F8 key stroke. This key combination no longer brings up a menu to disable the touchpad. I'd very much like to find a sloution. Thank you.

This feature was never a part of Windows. It was installed by Lenovo as one of their software features. Search Lenovo for the latest drivers and see if they have a win7 fix.
The SL400 you gave is not the complete product number so I couldn't search for you. The product number is something like 2868-KHU and should be on the bottom of the computer.
As you probably know you can disable the touch pad via device manager but that is not the solution you want.
Let me know if I can be of further help.

Touchpad Scrolling

The scrolling feature on a laptop touchpad can take some getting used to, which causes some users to disable the feature.
Whether scrolling was intentionally turned off or never enabled on the laptop, it can easily be turned on from the "Mouse Properties" menu.

Click "Start" (or the Windows logo button in Vista and Windows 7) and select "Control Panel." Select "Classic View" in Vista if not already displayed. Double click "Mouse."
You may also access "Mouse Properties" in Vista and Windows 7 by clicking the Windows logo and typing "Mouse" in the search box.
Press "Enter," then click "Mouse" when the search is finished.
Select the "Hardware" tab.
Select the touchpad and click "Properties."
Click "Change Settings" if the settings aren't displayed.
Click the "Device Settings" tab in Windows 7 and select the touchpad.
Click "Settings."
Click "Virtual Scrolling" in the touchpad properties window.
Click the boxes next to each "Enable Scrolling" box and click "OK." Scrolling is now turned on for your touchpad.

Toshiba Satellite A355-S6935 touchpad problem

That is normal, because the touchpad requires a driver. Windows 7, fortunately, comes with driver installation through the Windows Update.

Simply launch Windows update (Start Menu> type "Windows Update" > hit 'enter'), and select all the updates and hit update. You could also manually do it, by going to Toshiba's website, finding your computer model in the "support" category, and finding the appropriate touch-pad driver. (I believe it would be called "Synaptic Touchpad Driver").

Good luck!

Dell 1420 the twoon touch pad don't respond and the usb ports don't respond so i cannot connect a mouse neither can use the touch pad buttons I am dead on the water help!

LOL, didn't you know windows 7 was just a tad bit better than vista? Why do you think microsoft will be coming out with windows 8 in the coming months by the fall of this year. They keep trying to get it right.

Go to Dell's site and see if there are Window's 7 drivers for your model. If not, try downloading and installing the Windows Vista drivers. Right now, you might not have a driver or a good driver.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Download and install the Touchpad drivers and the Chipset (which has the usb ports).

Sony pcva-ms2 mouse won't connect

LOL, Welcome to the World of Windows 7, just a tad better than Windows Vista. Ever wondered why your job does not have Windows 7? How about your kids school? Know of any Government entity running it? Consumers drive Windows 7 just like they drove Windows Vista. People that know, stay away from it.

Make sure you don't have the Touchpad locked. Look into the mouse properties in the Control Panel. Some systems have a button at the top of the touchpad in the middle that locks it. Some will have you to tap twice in the upper left hand corner to toggle the touchpad. Some might require a Keystroke to unlock the touchpad such as Press and Hold the ALT or FN Key then hit the key that toggles the touchpad. The key that toggles the touchpad will have the icon of a finger pointing at a square which represents the touchpad.

You can try to go to Sony's Site and see if they have a driver for it. If so, download and install it.
Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "SonySupport" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operatingsystem when requested. Download and install the drivers.

Good mornning , i have dell d620 laptop (latitude) and i removed the original vista windows were on it when i bough it and installed windows 7 , i need to know is my laptop model match with window 7 or no...

All the vista drivers can be used for 7. By default, windows 7 installs all drivers except for touchpad.
You can find 32 bit version for it here
The 64 bit of Windows 7 64-bit ALPS touchpad driver from the Dell support site for a Latitude E6410 is reported to also work for D620. Give it a try.

Hi rbdav1,

Based on your situation. I suggest trying the following steps:

1. Download touchpad driver from here:

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=600154

2. go to Touchpad section and make sure you select the Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 version of the drivers that matches your Windows operating system.

3. After downloading the touchpad driver driver install it and then restart your computer.

4. Log back in to your computer then go to control panel --> open mouse properties then look for Alps pointing device tab.

5. Under Alps tab uncheck tap off when typing.

Hope it helps.

« Free Up Windows 7 RAM - Memory Cleaner Enable Administrator Account In Windows 7 » Auto Disable Mouse Touchpad When Typing By Nakodari on Nov 25 2009 28 Comments

It is a common annoyances with netbooks and laptops which lack the disable touchpad button. Most blogs out there are covering a single method to disable the touchpad, i.e, go to Control Panel > Mouse Properties and then disable the touchpad from there.

The above method is not suitable for those who need to disable the touchpad frequently for short periods of time. Who in his/her right mind would navigate back and forth just to enable/disable touchpad? This could be quite a hectic process.
TouchFreeze is a brilliant little app that solves this problem. It disables the touchpad temporarily the moment a keystroke is pressed. In layman's term, it disables the touchpad automatically when you are typing and enables it back when the typing is stopped.
It will sit silently in the system tray without disturbing any of your work. Just start typing and don't worry about the touchpad any more.
touchfreeze.pngI prefer using this app even though my notebook has a disable touchpad button. Please note that this app might not work with certain laptops, but should work with most netbooks and laptops that lack the disable touchpad button.

Hi!
Try uninstall the Touchpad driver, the reinstall using THIS ONE.
It says Vista/XP/2k support, but it worked for me on several M1330 machines, on Windows 7 as well...

Good luck,
