Upper portion of Whirlpool agitator not turning

Your agitator dogs are worn out. Remove the agitator and seperate the upper section from the lower section. There are 4 small teardrop shaped pieces that are the agitator dogs. They have either come apart over time or at least the teeth have worn off them.
Post back with any questions. Please verify the model number. I couldn't pull up a parts list for it. I know the last digit should be a 0 (zero) instead of an o.
Thanks/Mike

I have a Whirlpool washer... model number # LSQ8243HQO The top part of the agitator is loose. The bottom part is strong. I think I need what they call dog ear replacements. Can you help me?

yes sounds like the dogs to me.
to replace them, remove the cap at the top off of the top of agitator by pulling it up (no tools required) then remove the clear plastic cover by pulling on one of the two tabs in it,remove the bolts using 7/16" socket and pull the agotator out of the machine by gripping it at the bottem.seperate the upper portion of agitator by pulling it upand the dogs will be located under the clear plastic,to replace them seperate the top barrel of agitator a cam that holds all (4) dogs will come out remove the retainer over the dogs install new ones and reassamble in the line up upper barrel and main agitator you will (2) tabs on main agi. and (2) corosponding slots on barrel line them up and snap in place

The center part that adgitates does not rotate as i think it should can i tighten it somehow

You need to remove the screw from the center of the agitator and pull up on the agitator from the bottom , to remove it . Seperate the 2 piece agitator , and replace the 4 agitator " dogs " . Reasemble . The " dogs " lets the top section of the agitator only move in 1 direction causing the clothes to " tumble " . OR , take the complete agitator to a parts house and they will install them for you .

I have a Whirpool LSQ9244EQO top loadong wsher. all sounds good and operates well other than the agitator. It is weak and sometimes appears to skip. The movement is not steady, but appears to be strong...

moz-screenshot-4.jpgHi, This is a two piece agitator. If the bottom half agitates fine, you will need to replace the dog kit located between the two halves.
Remove the rinse dispenser and the cap below it. There is a 7/16' bolt that needs to bw removed in order to remove the agitator. Once you get the agitator out, separate the two pieces and you can see the dogs.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Top Agitator is not moving

This washer has a set of cheap plastic dogs that grab the inside wall of the upper agitator to move the clothes downward and help them get a better cleaning. The older style These dogs will wear out. To test whether or not these are bad just grab the agitator while in wash mode. The dogs should advance the top portion easily. If not then they are worn out. To replace them you must remove the agitator and sit it on the floor. Hold the base down with your feet and yank the top upwards. After seperating the 2 pieces you simply install the new dogs and line up the bottom with the top being careful not to break the little tabs on the bottom agitator that hold the top in place. The newer style you simply pop the cover of the agitator and use a 3/4 drive extention to unscrew the upper agitator. replace the dogs and put the top back on. Nothing could be easier.
