Question about Craftsman 20 Hp 42" Deck Lawn Tractor
Clutches typically have to be replaced instead of repaired. But I see very few clutch issues. Check very closely the pulleys on the deck. I strongly suspect you will find one of the pulleys has a bearing that has locked up. WITH THE MOWER OFF, try to turn each of the pulleys on the deck, it will be easier to check if the deck belt is off. All pulleys should turn smoothly. If any of them feel gritty or notchy or wobbly, replace them. With the mower off, the clutch should also rotate freely. The pulleys on top of the blade spindle have a brake on them, you may have to pull the brake back to check those. Any of these pulleys can lock up after they get hot and will shut down the belt rotation. Replace the offending pulley or spindle, and REPLACE THE BELT. While the engine was still turning and the pulley wasn't, it will damage the belt very quickly.
Parts should be readily available at www.searspartsdirect.com or at your local repair shop.
