Question about Tissot Watches

1 Answer

I was given a Tissot Seastar and I know nothing about it or if it's worth fixing. It has a 17 jewel automatic movement which works fine.It also has the day and date. The movement number is 14190996 and the number on the inside of the case is 46587-1X. The dial is black and the watch itself is in very good condition. The problem is the hands don't turn. I have seen older Tissots selling on ebay from 10.00 to 1300.00. Is my watch worth fixing and can you tell me how old it is as even the Tissot customer service could not help me with that Thank You David

If it is the eta 2824-2 model. When you say the hands don't turn, I take it it does not work? its an automatic so needs wrist/ hand movement to wind the rotor. You can manually wind the watch by simply turning the crown (without pulling the crown out) Try doing this first.

SOURCE: tissot setting instructions (for t-touch)

I downloaded a user's manual from Tissot's website. But it also dosn't give clear information. If you search from Google writing "tissot t-touch user manual", you will see some useful information. y. YAzar

SOURCE: Helbros Invincible c.1970 wristwatch hairspring

Take a closer look at the movement, especially under the balance wheel (use an eyeglass). There should be movement code. By that you can find the real movement manufacturer and the hairspring or balance complete will be easier to trace.

SOURCE: differentiating omega model 2561.80 and a model 2531.80

kris, the 2561.80 is a mid-sized (36mm case width) quartz bond seamaster. its second hand will tick every second and is powered by a battery. the 2531.80 on the other hand is 41mm in width and it's automatic. no batteries needed. the second hand would be sweeping as oppose to the ticking quartz movement. the face would have a "chronograph" word on it.

Tissot is Swatch. They do not sell parts! You need to contact the company OR where you purchased the watch.

Bought a 1970s tissot automatic seastar watch and was ticking for two days the just stopped. Have tried winding but won't work. What is most likely the problem?

A self winding watch will run for 2-3 days if it is not worn (they thrive on being used) and it sounds as if you have not been using it; is this the case?

It could be that the winder does not operate on the spring (some watches don't), so to wind it up you need to activate the self winding mechanism.

You can do this by gently swinging the watch from side to side for a few minutes. This will simulate the normal operation when it is being worn.

If you continue to have trouble with it stopping, it could be that it needs cleaning. I had a similar problem with a watch I had some years ago.

Battery was replaced by a jeweler. Since that

As the jeweller is not a watchmaker, he/she even did not realise the watch is not working properly. It sounds like your watch is having jammed gear train or the jeweller did not know how to reset the watch. Go to this website: www.tissot.ch
If you will not find solution there, you will have to look for watchmakers help.

Tissot T-Touch-Works fine until just about the end of the warranty

I suggest writing to Tissot in both your home country and in the head office in Switzerland. Use both email and paper letters. If you can provide documentation of the attempted fixes that will really help your case. Since you had a history of problems you have every right to ask them to stand behind their product. Perhaps there is a new warranty on the replacement movement, for example. You have nothing to lose except a bit of time, paper and postage. You could even ask your dealer to back you up with this -- he or she will still get paid for the work if Tissot agrees to extend the warranty.
