Stuck in WIDE? Me too. Based on the info below, from VIZIO support website, I think the TV defaults and locks on WIDE if you use an HDMI connection. You have to interpret the language a little bit, but he last sentence seems to imply that the TV automitically displays WIDE.

Aspect Ratio Aspect ratio refers to the images height vs. the images width. The current industry standards for this are 4:3 which square and 16:9 which is more of a horizontal rectangle shape. Most all television broadcasts are 4:3 except for high definition broadcasts. Due to the resolutions required for high definition it will always be broadcast in 16:9.

This stinks because I cannot stand the stretched out look. You should be able to display in 'normal' along with HD. Sony Bravias don't have this issue. No more Vizios for me unless they 'install' some common sense in their products.

My screen seems to be stuck in wide mode when i watch games i do not see scores or when i watch a movie with sub titles i only see a partial. so far i have done the following i done the reset to fact

Are you saying that that you cannot change the aspect ratio? Or are you expecting the TV to auto-adjust to the channel/program being displayed? Most sets DO NOT auto adjust. You need to use the remote to change the picture size to match the broadcast mode.

Youtube on my vizio 470i tv is off centered

CHANGING THE SCREEN ASPECT RATIO: ( From Manual )
The TV can display images in four different modes: Wide, Zoom, Panoramic, and Normal. Each mode displays the picture differently. To change the screen aspect ratio:
1. Press the MENU button on the remote.
2. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight the Wide icon. Press OK.
3. Use the Arrow buttons to highlight your desired screen mode and press OK:
• Normal preserves the content's original aspect ratio. Since the 4:3 aspect ratio is not large enough to fill the TV's screen, black bars are added to the left and right of the display image.
• Wide stretches a 4:3 aspect ratio picture to the edges of the screen. Since the picture is being stretched, the display image may appear distorted. If the program is already formatted for widescreen viewing (1.85:1 or 2.35:1), then black bars will appear on the top and bottom of the display image.
• Zoom expands images with black bars to fit the screen.
• Panoramic expands the display image to fill the screen.
images may appear wider than intended.
If you are watching widescreen (1.85:1 or 2.35:1) content, black bars will still appear on the top and bottom of the display image. This option is only available when the TV is displaying a 480i/480p source.

Stuck in wide mode

Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player.

Switch off TV manually, switch off power, remove plug and retry after 48 hours.

If problem persists, please refer it to a qualified service technician.

How do I make my vizio screen full?

Hello
If you are using RGB mode, make sure that H size and V position in the On Screen Display [OSD] are set correctly.
If you are using TV, AV-C, AV-S or Component with 480i input, use the WIDE button on the remote control to scroll through various screen modes. OK.

Change screen from wide to regular our cable guy put it on wide my control will no longer change it

Vizio has a set of buttons on the left side where you can access your settings and change the aspect ratio of your TV. Though why you want it changed is beyond me. Wide screen is for 16:9 aspect ratios. At 4:3 (Standard) you won't be using your full TV picture.

Vizio 42 in TV LCD HDTV white line across to of

That white line (usually jagged) is actuallly part of the transmitted picture. However, you are not intended to see it because it is located in what is known as the 5% overscan area. Your TVs today are more than just cable ready... they are a versital, technology filled multimedia display. You can see that line because the screen size or wide mode you are using is intended for 1080p/24 signals. You have 0% overscan with this screen size setting. This allows you to see ALL of the picture, including portions of the picture the broadcaster did not intend for you to see. You can change your screen size using the Wide feature in the Setup menu. See pg.62 of your user manual for details and descriptions of the various wide modes.

In the mode where i choose either wide or

The feature you're trying to use is grayed out when it's not available. Check your remote for a "zoom" or "picture size" button. Press the button a few times and you should find a setting which brings the whole picture back onto the screen. It sounds like you are zoomed in too far right now, so captions at the bottom are being cut off.
