Most likely the upper tension dial is too high. Turn it to 4 and try pulling the thread through the needle and see if it moves easier than before. If not turn it to 3. This should be a good tension on your upper thread so it won't make the stitch so tight. Also, be sure that the thread spool holder isn't too tight against your spool of thread. Let me know if this works.

I have a singer 2868c i cannot get the stitches to lenghten from a tight stich how di i change the length?

The stitch length lever/dial should control that for you. Consult your owner's manual. If it is not changing the stitch length even though you've adjusted it, then it probably needs service.

The thread keep bursting as soon as i start to sew although machine is thread properly

Check your thread tension isn't too tight, try on a piece of similar fabric that you are going to use, try sewing a line of stitches, if the thread snaps, change your tension number, then sew another line with your different tension number, try this until you can stitch without the thread snapping, it could be that your bobbin tension is too tight. Can you check your machine manual, it could even be the needle or the thread that's wrong for your fabric. But I would say, check your tension.
Hope this helps.

I can not sewig proper thread is breaking again again

Upper Thread Tension knob on machine is too tight.or needs cleaning to remove lint. Once the needle has been threaded, you should be able to pull thread through the needle with only a modest effort and no breaking.

There is also an adjustment for the lower bobbin (spool) on the spool carrier. for most machines.

The thread coming out from the spool passes under a flat spring to give it tension for an even stitch- to tight it breaks the thread, too loose it leaves you with excess thread per stitch.

If you can remove carrier with bobin, let out about 1 or 2 handspans of thread, and hold the carrier up by the thread. If it falls, it is too loose. If it does not move, not even with a gentle shake- it is too tight. Correct tension will hold the carrier and spool by their weight, and a light shake will have the assembly slow fall as it unstrings the bobbin.
The flat spring is held in place by a small screw, just loosen the screw slighlty to allow you to slide the spring one way or the other and retitghten.

I cannot get the tension right on my 2600 Brother machine. I am stitching in the ditch with three layers of material. Can you please help?

Make sure you have the right size needle...not to small. Then do a simple seam through three layers (doesn't need to be a seam just sewing through 3 layers of scrap) using a wide zig zag stitch. Examine the stitch looking at both sides. Do they look even, identical?

Think in opposites, ie the bottom thread tension affects the stitch on the top side and the thread tension on top affects the stitch on the bottom side. If one side is loopy then the opposite side tension is too loose (or, sometimes that side's tension is too tight). Adjust until both sides are identical looking. Then try stitching in the ditch like you wanted to.

Sewing with heavy thread, what should the tension be set on?

hi there
the tension depends on thikness of material but you must use heavy thread on needle and thin thread on bobin case .
- you must be sew fiew stitches firist and look if losse stitch from down you must tight tension slowly sloly and if there is losse stitches from upper you must tight screw for bobin case spring slowly slowly until stitch format be agood condation.

you have your thread tension too tight that's why it is pulling the bottom stitch all the way through it looks good from the bottom but not good on top. Its pulled the stitch all the way through the material.
I had my own upholstery shop 18 yrs and tension gets you every time.Just loosen the top tension.

Stitching too tight on top

I found a screw on the bobbin case (where you put the cotton for the underside stitching) which was very loose. I tightened it and that created more tension for the bottom thread which solved the problem.
