Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It is likely the motor is failing. It may be a small part such as the capacitor or the starting switch, but could also be more severe such as the winding itself. You will also want to examine the shaft where it passes thru the pump and motor and look for signs of rust from a pump seal leak.

If you are not familiar with testing these parts your best bet would be a local electric motor repair shop to see if the motor can be repaired or if it would need to be replaced. They should also be able to ensure there is no pump damage.

If this answer does not fix your problem, please comment with additional details prior to rating the answer. Positive feedback is appreciated once your problem is solved!

I am in Australia, and my 2HP aquaflow pump XP2 (model 06615168-1) hums on start up and eventually clicks off without pumping. The impellar and the shaft spin freely when I turn the shaft .What could the...

The Aquaflow pumps were the old workhorses and I still see some here in the USA that have been working for over 20 years. The first thing to do is see if the impeller turns freely just with your fingers. You may either take the lid of and stick a finger in the hole in the pot going toward the motor and try to spin the impeller, or on this pump you can reach the motor shaft through the holes in the motor mounting bracket. If the impeller spins freely, you most likely have a blown or open motor start capacitor. This is located under the little dome looking cap on top of the motor. At the very worst you would need to replace the entire motor but the pump should still be OK. This pump uses a keyed shaft motor and you need a long hex wrench to loosen the 3 set screws on the shaft extension. Not the easiest pump to work on but not rocket science either. Hope this helps.

Pool pump does not start

Well, this could be caused by several different problems. The first step would be to make sure the breakers are not in a half-trip condition in the breaker panel. You should turn the breakers off and snap them back on. If the breakers are OK, you need to check and see if you have the proper voltage coming into and out of the time clock. Some pumps run on 110v and some on 220v. The proper voltage can usually be determined by the type breakers. Single Pole is 110v, Double Pole would be 220v. You would need a meter to test the voltage at the time clock. If you have the proper voltage, you next need to make sure the shaft is spinning freely by trying to turn the impeller with your finger. If this is free, you may have a blown start capacitor on the motor itself. Hope this helps.

The breaker trips when the power is turned on...what is wired wrong?

the shaft maybe stuck. open the pump lid and remove the pump basket. alot of times debris gets past the basket and jams the empeller which stops the motor shaft from spinning. you can remove the little round cap at the back of the motor. there is usually a grove to place a flat head screw driver in and try to spin shaft. or you can use a 1./2 in open end wrench it if the shaft is not completely round it will have two flat areas where the wrench will grip and then you can spin the shaft manually the point is the shaft should spin fairly easily without alot of force. if it does not you mayb have to seperate the motor from the pump and make sure ther is no debris or some thing stuck in the pump area. but before you go thru all that work use a pressure hose and or long screwdriver to get in thru the opening hole behind where the pump basket sits. that is usually where the blockage is from not gettign all the stuff out of the cavity under the pump basket. the point is you need the shaft to spin freely or the motor will over heat and trip the internal swithch or breaker ther other issue may be there is water leaking into the electrical area causing the tripping and or over time a wire may have worn out and exposed the metal to touch other metal which is arching the electric and breaking the tripper

Hotpoint WMA74 does not pump out after programmed

No test available other than:
Remove pump - check motor will turn by rotating impellor. There is a slight resistance then moves freely, then slight resistance and freely again. This is correct for this machine. worth checking there is no hair, elastic band or other obstruction around the impellor fins and shaft whilst the pump is out.
There is no spin cycle so you have to use rinse & spin, which means if the pump is shot you need to empty the machine each time :(
Worth checking lower filter as stated and blowing down the drain hose whilst the pump is off to check for obstructions.
The resolution to my problem was a new pump - £20.
All working fine again now !

Turning on my pump causes loud hum noise then breaker trips

Your pump is seized or the start capacitor is bad. In rare instances, its wired improperly set to 240v and only given 120v.
To break a siezed pump free, turn off power at the breaker, remove the back cap. You will see in the center a shaft. Either its round with a small pin like punch, its able to be grabbed with a 7/16ths inch wrench or a large flat head screw driver. You need to break it free so it can spin (chlorine is an oxidizer and rusts things). If it spins freely right from the start, you need a new start capacitor, or need to check your line voltage.

Intermatic t10004 control panel trips the circuit breaker

That circuit breaker is letting you know that you've got a problem in the electrical wiring.... What's next is to turn the power off to BOTH legs of the breaker.
Begin by physically inspecting all the connections in the timer box, and at the breaker and all the way to the pump motor. Make sure all connections are dry, and there's no water in any of the conduits...this will cause a short circuit and trip the breaker. If there's any bare power leg wires touching a grounding point , this can cause the breaker to trip. Lastly check the motor on the pump; on the motor end, there should be a cap you can remove and use a crescent wrench to make sure the motor shaft is moving freely. It could be jammed with debris....this happens around my pool often because I'm surrounded by trees with needles. If the motor cannot turn freely, this will cause the breaker to blow... I'm pretty sure that your timer isn't the issue... Please let me know what you find out.

Just replace compressor keep tripping circuit breaker

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.
The fan motor could have been your problem all the time, because if the fan doesn't come on or runs slow, it causes high head pressure,
which causes high amps, which could trip your breakers.

Wont spin, motor shaft turn but belt does not

If you start the washer and it just kind of buzzes and then does nothing, one thing you can check is to see if you have a clogged water pump. If you have kids sometimes baby socks can get jammed into the pump causing it not to spin, to check the pump simpy pull the hose on the back that goes into the pump and the hose that comes out of the pump, then the pump should slide off the shaft check to see if the water pump spins freely!
