You need to be in an area with a wireless internet signal.
Depending on if their is a security code on the signal, you may need to enter a code to access it.
To access the Connection Settings, go to System settings, then Internet, and follow from there.

SOURCE: how do u connect your nintendo dsi to the internet

Make sure you are near a wireless access point. Go to your wifi settings and make sure all the information is put in correctly. If the wireless access point is secure than you will need the password to the router.

The dsi xl will not take my internet connection and i want to get on the internet can u help me please

I wrote a tech article which goes over how to connect a DSI to the internet. Connecting to the internet is a simple process. Click here for the article.

If you are still having trouble can you provide more details on the issue? Are you getting an error when you try and connect? If the wireless router you are trying to connect to from your DSi has a security key then you need to enter this key on your DSi in order to connect.

Please comment back if you have questions.

I dont have the web and i want to connect to the internet

If you want to connect to the internet with your DSi console at home, you will unfortunately have to get a home internet connection with a wireless router.

Another option you have is to visit somewhere with a wireless internet connection, such as a cafe. Ask there for the 'wi-fi' password, which you will be asked for on your DSi upon trying to connect to the internet.

Hope this helps.

If you have wireless internet router then you can connect the DSi without the use of a hotspot. Simply search for your router's name and enter the WEP code so the DSi can connect. Go to the Nintendo Wifi Setup page if you are confused. They have step by step instructions on how to configure any of their products to wifi.
