I can't get my dyson to stay on. If i push the purple button down it comes on but as soon as I take my finger off it shuts off.
I was just told that the switch is worn out by another expert but the vacuum is not that old.

The actual power button mechanism has failed or become dislodged. It is a tiny little switch inside that purple button that has stopped working, or has slid down a tiny bit, far enough that the purple button isn't engaging it.

I believe you can pop that purple button off with a thin flat-head screwdriver, just be gentle with it. Then you could inspect the power switch and see if it has moved, and if it hasn't then it needs to be replaced. You may want to just pop the power switch off and leave it, then you will have a tiny little power switch like the one in the picture found on the link I will provide below (for the replacement). You may be able to just use this, and forget about putting the purple button back on... so that you don't have to worry if you break it, at least the vacuum will work again. Most likely it is just that the button isn't fully pressing the switch, so after getting that purple cover off you will have access to the real switch!

If you wanted to try replacing the switch yourself (if after popping off the purple button, the little switch in there doesn't work when you press it manually), you can get a new one from here:

My dyson DC25 Animal, wont turn on. Is there something I can do to fix the problem

I called Dyson because I had a similar problem. When I pushed the red button down on my dc25, but it would not stay down. The vacuum would turn on when the button was pushed down, but of course when I let go of it the vacuum would shut off. The helpful telephone tech. Recognized the symptom right away and told me to push down on the button fully and let It flick up like a lighter. I about fell off my chair when that worked right away! Anyway for what it's worth, she said sometimes the mechanism in the buttons gets consnarlitated (my tern, not hers!) and this resets the spring...

Vacuum won't stay on. When I push the button to start it, the motor shuts off as soon as I let go of the button.

You have a broken switch (replace) or hopefully something caught under the switch. Regards Billy

My Dyson will not lock into the stand position

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- WHilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square holse basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole

My Dyson upright suddenly won't stay in the upright position. It appears that a little rubber piece has fallen out of position.

Dyson Animal DC17 motor won't stay on

You will need to have the button replaced. Dyson power buttons are notorious for breaking because just a gentle push is all that is required and they can break if they have been pushed down roughly.

Dyson DC01 - can't get starter button switch off.

this issue is known well with dysons to be honest you will continue to have this problem for as long as you have the vacuum. they use substandard plastic parts which break easy. You will have to replace the button and make sure there are no other broken pieces of plastic in the housing before putting it back together.
