Each DVD-Video disc contains one or more region codes, denoting the area(s) of the world in which distribution and playback are intended. The commercial DVD player specification dictates that a player must only play discs that contain its region code. In theory, this allows the motion picture studios to control the various aspects of a release (including content, date and price) region-by-region. In practice, many DVD players allow playback of any disc, or can be modified to do so. Entirely independent of CSS encryption, region coding pertains to regional lockout, which originated in the video game industry.

Open the DVD player's main drive, also commonly called the
DVD "tray." The region cannot be changed while a DVD is in the machine,
so many DVD players require the tray to be open as an extra precaution.
4
Use the remote to select the "Region" option as indicated on your TV screen.
5
Select "Region 9" to change the system to multiregion
formatting. Regions 1 through 8 represent specific geographic locations
and will not allow multiregion playback.
You need an aerial to tune the freeview. However, to record from satelite you can connect a scart lead from the satelite vcr out to the dvd in and it will record vie the av "channel" on the dvd. Depending on your location, regarding signal strength, you can purchase an indoor, boosted aerial to tune the freeview. Also, if the scart connection on the dvd is a 2 way connection( allowing a signal to the tv as well as from the tv) you can connect the tv to the satelite and the dvd to the satelite only and the dvd will play through the satelite even when the satelite is off.
