this is probably because there is dust in the headphone jack socket of the TV. There is no contact between the TV and the headphone, that's why its not working.
Get a screw driver, open the TV cover in order to gain access to the headphone jack, then dip a tooth brush into a methylated spirit container and use it to clean the jack area. This will smooth-en the area and there should be contact this time.
