Hi, my name is John. Check your power source, there should be a in-line fuse on the red wire, next to the black wire. It will come apart if you push in and twist it counter clock-wise. Should be a fuse there. Replace it with the same rating, it should be written on the side of the fuse....hope this was very helpful...Rate this solution on the four thumbs-up...Let me know if you have further problems......Always glad to help....John

How to check wiring inside a cobra 25 classic to determine if its made propperly

Yes, if you have a meter check resistance (like reading a fuse) with the radio off and power cord removed.

Only two of the three pins (look at power cord to see only two have metal in them) are used.

With power switch on front in off position there should be no reading across the + to - pins on the back of the radio.

If a short there the protect diode is shorted--likely first time it got hooked up backwards--easy to do.

Follow in this case the + pin on back just inside the radio and it goes directly to a diode. cut the diode if a short there and read again at the plug--if short gone replace the diode--radio will work without it but you will have no protection in that case.

Brand new Midland 5001z blows fuses immediately after its turned on. I tried the power cord on Cobra 25 that has the identical plug configuration and its Ok. I don't have the receipt as I got it a

bad final also check for any burned resistors in the area. If the final caused the resistor to burn the just replacing the resistor it would burn the new one also.

I don't know how I copied and pasted so much sorry about that. But my question is I have orange and red wires with fuses and black wire without do I hook both red and orange to hot and black to ground?

it depends on what radio if you have a cobra 18wx style or maxon's, or a radioshack type the red is constant power 12v, orange is a switched 12v.. IE key like a stereo, and black is ground. if you have a 25 or 29 ltd types or exports they only have 2 wires red 12v and black ground. but you do find some power cords that have all three, and the orange on the 25 / exports are not used.

Trying to hook up a cobra 29 but keep blowing inline fuse

I had the same problem with a 25 that was just disconnected for replacement. I found a shorted diode right where the power cord came in. I also didn't like the way the electrolytic capacitor right next to it was charging so I changed it also.
Problem solved.
I am sure the 29 will have a similar setup. I you want I will look up my schematicof a 29 and tell you the numbers to check.
Of course it is also possible somehow too much voltage was applied to the radio. In which case the previous repairs will almost surely be needed.
I hope this helped, Good luck

Cobra 25 ltd wx wont power up

You most likely blew a Diode that is back near the power plug.

It is easy to fix the diode but if you continued to apply power you may have damaged other parts including the audio chip.

I have a cobra 25 ltd can i turn up the power without bringing it to someone

so what your asking then if you can increase the signal strength so I goes farther? If so then you can go to any radio shack and buy a signal booster that hooks up through the anntena line.
