Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I own a Digistar model# LC 32U5D. Recently, the TV needs to be warm up before it can start and sometimes if it is not warm enough, the picture comes up flickering. Now, it becomes worse because it won't startup no matter what and the sound which it use to make is no more heard at start up. PLease advise.

    Hi Rylee Smith

I do not have knowledge of internal circuitry of the unit. There is nobody in my local area that can fix Digistar TV. I hope you can advise me if there is another option or can it be a simple problem as that of a fuse blown in the TV which is something that I do not wish to open up to check since the unit is very high voltage even in the off position.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems that the inverter board is fine so it is either the T-con board in the unit has gone bad and/or it is not getting the required 12vdc from the power supply unit. If you have knowledge of internal circuitry of the unit then you can open the back of the unit and check the T-con board which is the last board before the LCD panel. Usually it is available with the LCD Panel. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise & know how to solder/re-solder components as these units contain high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I have a Digistar HD LCD TV model LC-4010D. I have no remote for the TV. When I turn it on, the blue light turns on to show that it has power. But no picture or sound appears. It is currently plugged into...

I'm not familiar with the tv set, however here are some things to try.

It's possible that the tv powers up in stand-by mode, so you'll need to find a way to turn it on completely. See if there are channel +/- buttons on the tv and try them.

If the remote might be necessary, try to see if you have friends/family with a universal remote control, such as a Logitech Harmony, to lend to you for testing. This way you can avoid spending money for nothing on a remote.

Googling on this brand and model gives a lot of negativity though: a lot of problems posting, but no support or even an online manual. Personally I've never heard of Digistar. It might've been a bad investment.

My digistar tv does not turn on but the red standby light is on

If this is a standard TV, I would be searching for a bad start up capacitor. I always search for a 160 volt to 200 volt at 1Mf or 2.2Mf. These go down in a hurry. They are usually you standby cap and also operate the horizontal deflection. Also look for a 160 volt to 200 volt 4.7 Mf capacitor, these go bad as well. Second, be sure you have good grounds on your vrtical IC (LA 78XX series). You may need to resolder these pins, do not short them together with excess solder. You may resolder the large flyback transformer, sometimes a bad ground here, will not let your TV come on. I have not repaired this particular model. But I would certainly start with the info I give you. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Digistar TV

Sorry, I am not famillar with your model, however most flat panel problems with start up can be traced to the power supply as the capacitors can fail due to the high operating temperatures. An electrical surge can also come in through the Cable and or antenna connection as well.

Delay to see the picture

Your power supply is going south, I have an old sony with the same problem. The voltage level drops and does not have enough 'kick' to start. It will work better when it is warm. The module will need to be replaced.
