I will likely need to replace both the CD burner and also the hard drive in my Masterlink. What currently available drives/burners are compatible with the Masterlink? I know that the hard drive will probably need to be jumpered to limit it to 32 GB, but other than that, I don't know what to look for. Thanks.

SOURCE: Alesis Masterlink ML 9600 won't power up.

After reviewing the repair and owners manuals. I have come to the conclusion that there is a short in the power supply board. Your drives should be fine. I don't know off hand how expensive it is to fix in your area. I would say approx $200

Burner working

What operating system do you have? The drive is fully supported by XP onwards and should be auto detected. You may have to delete the current driver in device manager reboot & Windows should install a compatible driver. (Start > right-click computer > properties > Device Manager > DVD Drives > Highlight faulty drive and delete > reboot)

Also, WinXP does not allow you to burn DVDs unless you have appropriate burning software installed (e.g. Nero)
tip

· Verified that the drive is detected by the BIOS.
· The drive is seen by BIOS.

· Flashed the BIOS to the most current version available.
· Reseated the CD drive cables.
· Swapped with a known good drive.
· There is no drive available to swap.
· Replaced the optical drive.

Disc failure while to burn a CD on the Alesis Masterlink ML-9600

The Alesis fitted with a standard computer CD drive, there's an online list somewhere of compatible drives. Take the lid off, unscrew the current drive, and replace. It sounds like the drive is faulty. Online instructions all over the place on how to replace these drives in PCs - it's no different in the Alesis

Need to replace cd/dvd burner

Replacing a laptop internal drive is a pain because you need to get the original drive, or it may not fit or match up with the motherboard connector correctly. Here's one website that lists several drives; you'll need to check the number on the current one to see which you need. This eBay seller has one at a good price. What I generally recommend is getting an external USB burner instead of worrying about replacing the internal drive, unless you absolutely don't want to deal with carrying an extra piece in you laptop bag. You don't need to worry about compatibility, you can use the same burner on different computers, and (best of all) it's usually much less costly than the original drive.

Can't load my burner

Hello,

The CD Burner drive is compatible with your Windows XP the software version is where the problem is. You need to get an updated version of the burner program, something like Nero burning ROM or Roxie EZ CD creator.

As far as compatability goes, if they are all fitted the same as a conventional pc via an ide cable, then any drive will fit, but for the purpose of burning DVD's ensure you have enough hard drive space for caching the images that they burn from and make sure your memory is large enough to cope.
