SOURCE: my electric GE dryer stopped working today, when

sounds like the motor is running, the belt could likely be broken and be the culprit, this is if the motor is turning for sure after you start the dryer

My dryer is not drying my clothes completely. I have to set it to time dry for at least 120 minutes to get a load of clothes to dry. I can feel that the dry is warm .I usually dry my clothes on optimum dry...

Your dryer has a double set of heating elements
themobilian_2122.jpg
1 side of the coils is probably broken and you are getting half the heat.
This is making the dryer take longer to dry them clothes.
themobilian_2123.jpg
themobilian_2124.jpg
Air restrictions in the dryer and vent can cause the heater control to shut down quickly also.
If you have a bad breaker the power will sometimes work and sometimes not.
themobilian_2125.jpg
If all of these are good you might have a problem with the timer.

Most of the GE timers have leaf switches in the that get a burr on the contacts. The come apart simple enough.

Sensor and timed dry isn't working. Dryer runs but never stops.

if the timer dont run on the timed dry setting the timer is bad.if it works on the timed setting but not the auto setting you have a heat issue.

Make sure you have a 30amp two pole breaker. Also, it could be a heater problem.

Dryer Shuts off with full load

ok so it runs for the full time set when on timed dry. auto from optimum or less dry runs quickly, correct?
Auto runs on yours by advancing the timer whenever the thermostat is satisfied with the temp coming out. This has a wire that runs from the heater to a resister mounted in the console area then to the timer providing the power to run the timer motor. Most commonly the heater is the cause. GE dryers have 2 elements side by side that operate indepenently but if one goes out the unit will still heat but the circuit for auto is like the heater is off advancing the timer.
the heater is located behind the drum on the wall. first measure the resistance on the resister, i believe 1.4 k ohms see diagram behind it.
to get to heater, remove 2 phillips screws inside door opening top holding top down. then lift top and slide to left if plastic console. to unhook from console. remove 2 screws holding front to cabinet, disconnect wires at bottom left on panel. reach inside on bottom (2 hands may be necessary) pull tensioner arm to right and hook on motor side, it will stay there till pushed. you will get red grease on you. Now you can pull the drum straight out, its a tight fit up front you can remove a side screw to help. you now have an excellent view of the heater. any breaks in either coil?

Timer only works on Timed Dry Setting

Check your heating element. If one coil of the heating element is burnt out the dryer will heat on the remaining coil, but the timer will not advance in automatic dry.

GE dryer willl not stop, drys OK

I does sound like the timer has went out on your dryer, but there could be other problems as well.  Sometimes exccesive lint build-up can cause a heat transfer issue with the thermostats.  On GE models, anything o stop or delay heat transfer could cause the timer to stop working.  If im not mistaken, this is a gas dryer correct?  It could be a number of things that could stop the forward motion of the timer, primarily a stuck or inoperative thermostat, a defective flame sensor (highly doubtful if it dries), or a wiring problem.  Be sure to check out all your wiring, then if you wanted to, try and replace the thermostats.  Just dont want to see you waste a lot of money if it was a bad timer.
