Each arc is a stitch. One ridge is two rows of garter stich.
Garter stich is achieved by knitting every row. The link below shows pictures of this.
How to Count Rows in Garter Stitch
Install a brand new needle. If it still won't pick up the bobbin thread, the machine may be out of time. Search for sewing machine timing or take it for service.
machine out of time. theres a mark on needle bar that aglins with the needle bar guide. when u have the needle in this position u have to loosen the hook ( 3 screws) and place the point of the hook just meeting the needle. before u try this try lowering the needle slightly.
Make sure nothing has either gotten stuck/caught/jammed somewhere inside it. Insure that the thread stays attached to the needle. Or the material you are trying to sew/stitch may be too thick.
Do you have thread in your bobbin? Is your needle fully inserted in the needle bar? Is it the right needle for the machine? Is your needle damaged, bent or dull?
Call Singer at 1-800-4singer, sounds like a buttonhole lever problem. Is it like that on all styles of buttonholes? Check that out before you call them, and make sure that you pull the lever all the way down.
My first guess is a tension problem, my second guess is you could be using cheap thread. Sewing machines don't like cheap thread. But check out your tension first.
What model machine is it?
