SOURCE: walky talky

A walkie talky as we called them, back when we were younger - and hell we probably still do in some respects, hence the fact my friend still refers to her cordless phone as a "walkie talky" and the principals haven't changed that much.

The common old Walkie Talky or CB radio use what we call a half duplex, that means only one person can talk at a time. We are talking and listening on the same channel.

Cell phones are full duplex, meaning two way conversation, and this is simply listening on one channel whilst talking on another, so the basic principal is basically the same, just a little more sophisticated.

Walkie-talkie typically has one channel
CB radio has 40 channels.
Cell phone
can communicate on 1,664 channels or more!

I have included a link to a circuit diagram.

There is also two links below, building the transmitter & receiver.

This one should be a very close match. The T4508 is a foreign version of the T4500.

SOURCE: charging walkie talkies

This is more for "mshtexas" than the OP but I'm sure there may be others out there wondering the same thing. The power cord that comes with this unit has a 9.0v output at 200mA with the center pin being positive

The button on the left, front case, starts it. The 2 buttons on the right, front case, selects the channel. The other 2 buttons selects the mode - make sure that both are on the same channel and same mode. To speak just press the big button on the side.
If the unit doesn't starts then it's defective - the reason it was thrown away.

Removal battery clip

This can be a trick. You can slide a small screw driver between the battery and the clip to release the clip. Sometimes you need a third hand. Tapping the bottom of the belt clip on the edge of a counter while slipping the screwdriver in the sweet spot will sometimes help.

My Cobra MircroTalk walkie-talkies aren't charging. The charge light doesn't turn on and I've made sure u turned Tue units themselves off. The model number is: GA-CQ

If your problem started after replacing the batteries (mine did), see this: http://www.walkie-talkie-radio.co.uk/replacing-cobra-walkie-talkie-rechargeable-batteries.html If that is your problem, you can also fix it by wrapping foil around the bottom of the battery that makes that touches the bottom side charging contact.

Battery clips

you have to remove the circuit board from the case. There is a rod that holds the clip in. You have to remove a little rubber cover that keeps the rod from coming out.
You need the part number : PMDN4022AR

Walkie talkie batteries don't last

What you have been using are consumer grade walkie talkies. The rechargeable battery packs in them should last a full business day, unless you are in a high use area. This being said, it is also possible you might need to replace the rechargeable battery pack as they usually have just a one year life expectancy. As they start to fail they will go less and less time in a day.

To answer your question about a radio which will go a full business day, any of the business division Motorola handheld radios would work. Radios such as the CP110, BPR40, CP185, and CP200 are all make to go a full day and sometimes more. Their battery packs depending on chemistry would also need to be replaced every 18-24 months.

Best regards.
