My C6180 had the same problem. Apparently some defective components were used in the construction of the logic board (see photo). On my C6180 there were 3 failed capacitors (the green cylinders - the puffed top indicates failure) and a 4th from the same manufacturer (TEAPO - many unfavorable web references to this manufacturer). I purchased 3x 330uF 16V and 1x 680uF 10v rated to 105 degrees Celsius (total about 60cents). On the logic board, the capacitors I replaced are labeled C613, C614, C660 and C662. If you are not comfortable replacing the parts yourself (or don't have a soldering tool), you will have to find someone who will. The time to repair should be less than 30 min - I did it in 25 min with only a solder pen. This fixed the on and off problem and also fixed the ink system failures the printer was having. A similar fix may apply to other printers . my printer is a c6180 and keeps repeatedly - acca299.jpg

This info has been so helpful along with this group of pictures:http://picasaweb.google.com/109215435720... The pictures show how to get to the logic board. Thank you for helping me fix my printer instead of turning it into a boat anchor!

To resolve this issue please follow these steps:

Disconnect the USB cable and remove the cartridges from the product.
Disconnect the power cord and wait for 30 seconds.

Reconnect the power and the cartridges.
Proceed to print a calibration page to test the Printer.
Reconnect the USB cable and try to print again.

In case this does not resolve the issue, please proceed to reset the printer by following these steps:

Hold the OK and the Help button at the same time.
While holding them down, plug the power in.
Continue to hold both buttons until the unit shuts off.
After shutting down, release both buttons and power on the printer.

This will resolve the issue you are facing.

I will look forward to your feedback and positive rating.

Photosmart C6180 All in one printer will not start although live

Strange because I have the same issue, and I've had this printer for over 3 years but the problem just started about a month ago.
I reset the printer by: 1) Unplug power to the printer 2) Hold #6 on the keyboard 3) Plug power cord back in while holding #6 Eventually (10 seconds?) the printer will shut down. Once it does, release #6 and power up the printer again.
Warning: This reset all the configuration settings.
This works for me, but there is still an issue because I have to repeat this every time I turn off/on the printer.

Model c6180 printer gives improper shutdown error

The printer is not getting enough power. When you get this error message it means the printer is being turned off by unplugging the power cord. In this case it maybe that the printer is not getting enough power due to being in a surge protector or perhaps the power module is no longer holding power correctly.
First step is to disconnect printer from any power strip, surge protector, or extension cords and plug in so directly to the wall. If printer still will not stop looping cycle you may need to contact hp for a new power module.

My Hp c6180 printer has error masage " Improper shut down"

I had the same problem. Try shutting it down by holding the off button and unplugging it for a few seconds from the back of the printer. Wait a couple of minutes and them plug it back in. Make sure you are connect to a wall outlet and not a power strip or surge protector.

If this doesn't work, hold down the #6 key while cord back from the printer.

Hopefully one of these two would work.

If it doesn't you can go to the HP site and start a chat with a tech who will walk you through a solution.

I had the same problem, and got resolved.

HP C6180 Incessant Switching On and Off

The best way to deal with this issue is making sure that the printer isn't plugged to a surge protector
and performing a partial reset
you can achieve this by unplugging the power cable and pressing # and 3 and then replugging the cable and hold the # and 3 buttons until you see the lcd lit up
also try the # and 6 and then # and 9 to reset it to factory defaults if the previous doesnt work

HP C6150 Printer that turns off then back on repeatedly

Please DON'T keep posting messages that say "I had the same problem..." Those are useless!

If the software resets don't work, it's possible it's an electronics problem. Here is a repair note that worked for me:

Error Message: 0xc18a101

The Ox error you are describing is an issue being seen in quite a few hp printers. The only known fix is to try is while the printer is turned on unplug from power source. Unplug the power cord from the back of the unit as well and hold the power button down for 5 seconds to drain any remaining power the printer may be hanging on to. Wait another 30 seconds and plug the cord into the unit first and then directly into the wall - not a surge protector or power strip.

After you have plugged it back in if the error message comes back up then it is a fatal error within the printer. Call hp and see if they have any upgrade units available - usually refurbished but they come with a 1 yr warranty and are significantly cheaper than buying a new unit from the store. They will also take your unit and pay to have it returned to go to an environmental recycling facility.
