Service factor must match old motor ! motor must match impeller hp rating ! .. get the numbers off the impeller and search it on the web.. bet your motor is too small.. the easy fix ? buy the right impeller for your motor.. the things you need when buying a impeller are as fallows.. your motors hp and SF .. thats the service factor ! if the voltage is 120 v the motor set on 240 it will jump back and forth between start and run.. it will make a click ..click ..click noise .USE A VOLT METER. I smell a northstar a real pain of a pump.. REMEMBER TO BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS (PLEASE) AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP REPAIR GUY.. AND GIVE ME A THUMB OR TWO ,IF;N YA FEEL I WAS OF HELP ..JAY FLORIDA

You are probably feeding it 115V and it comes out of the box set for 230. Running a motor set for 230 at only 115 will cause it to overheat and cycle the thermal overload off and on. Use a meter to confirm you are only connected to a 115V line and switch the voltage selector switch over to the 115 setting and it should operate normally.

Probably just a bad motor. That is why you get a warranty.

What happens if my magic bullet overheated

Hi Emma,

These small appliances are designed for low loads for short durations followed by long periods of rest because they are not made with components for anything more than that. This helps keep the cost down - and probably contributed to your decision to buy it. Overheating causes parts to expand. This results in more friction and slows the motor. If allowed to operate to the point of the motor shutting off, you may have permanently damaged the motor (once a device has overheated this way - the life expectancy of the device is reduced - sometimes significantly) Allow it to cool completely and see if it will operate with no load. If it doesn't - you'll probably need to replace it. If it does, try putting something in it to see if it works. If it does, monitor how long it runs for - and check to see if it is overheating - if you sense and overheat condition - shut it off at once and consider replacing it.

Cooked electric motors rarely perform the same as uncooked.
My guess is field windings have shorted so not providing enough output. I'd be replacing the motor.

Dryer shuts off after about 10 minutes. Motor feels hot, real hot. I think it is overheating and shutting off. The lower the setting the longer it will run. Is it the Thermal fuse or thermostat?

There might be a problem with the bushing of the dryer motor that causes the rotor to become shorted with the magnetic field and that's the reason why it becomes too hot. It is also the reason why the thermostat shuts off the motor when it becomes too hot to avoid overheating. Replace the bushing of your motor.

Overheating dryer - motor replacement???

Good day,
You said "The dryer is still overheatng". If your not describing the motor but the whole machine then that problem will have to be resolved.
Maytag's build lint up badly in the blower housing area and the duct between it and the filter. Requires disassembling the front of the dryer and cleaning that area as well as determining if the blower wheel is loose on the motor shaft requiring replacing.

If the overheating is the motor itself, then replacing it would be a common item on that brand.

After using the unit for a few minutes it cuts off.

The electric motor inside your Dyson has a built in over-current trip to protect itself (and you if it seriously overheated and caught fire). This normally automatically resets itself, however if the motor has just about had it, next time it is switched on it just trips again.

The primary cause of motors overheating is that the filters are not cleaned or replaced frequently enough. Dont be fooled by Dyson's "lifetime filters". They need to be regularly cleaned and replaced when necessary.

Replacement motors are available on eBay for about £25, however replacing one requires good DIY skills and tools.

Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com and see if you feel you can tackle it yourself. If not, take it to a repair shop or call the Dyson helpline.
