Question about Epson Stylus Photo 1290 InkJet Printer

My Epson 1290 printer's rollers seem OK. What happens is that the first stage loading prior to the paper reaching the rollers doesn't happen. Please advise if there is anything I can do please?

There is no toner on this inkjet printer - it uses ink cartridges that move across the width of the printer. Also there is no paper, paper fluff or obstructions anywhere.
    Can you comment further please.

The first expert's comment seemed to relate to a laser printer. Mine is an inkjet Epson 1290. The rollers are fine - grip the paper if it reaches them. There are no obstructions, nor is there any paper or paper fluff anywhere. The problem seems to be with the loading mechanism itself, which more often than not does not feed the paper to the rollers. I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Hi! Some roller cleaner and restorer spray I'd ordered a few days ago arrived simultaneously with my reading your reply. With the confidence generated by your reply, I made an inkjet cleaning sheet and fed it through the printer as per the manufacturer's instructions.
Success - the paper now feeds through flawlessly.
Thank you so much - you're a star!

Hi! Rollers will need cleaning. The roller needs cleaning to grip the paper properly. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Try to remove the toner by turning off the machine. As soon as you remove the toner, check underneath the toner if there is paper residue on the machine. I also advice you to tap the toner so that it will be strategically aligned to the roller. The paper itself will flow seemlessly. Reinsert back the toner and close the compartment. Turn on the machine and start printing.. hope this help....

My 1290 fails to feed the paper. It seems that most of the time the paper is picked up at one edge so the paper crumples

When you experience damage to the paper when feeding it means that it is hitting something in it's path. Open the printer and check the path of the paper for any foreign objects like torn paper, staples, and the like. And if you have printed any labels, part of the label maybe caught on one of the rollers.

My Epson 1290 (some years old) doesn't grab paper, especially good inkjet paper) properly. It passes straight through, prints on the roller, and/or I get messages saying the paper isn't loaded properly or...

That could be from the rubber rollers not being able to grip the paper. They get polished or shiney over time with use and age. Then they slip or pull incorrectly and you get your problems. There are other things that can cause this but nothing worth fixing.

Fixing the rubber rollers is easy. You need some ispropyl rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Make sure it is isopropyl type as this won;t attack other parts. Simpley wet the paper towel and wipe down the rubber rollers. You will see the rubber go from a dull shine to dull flat rubber. This takes off the buildup on the rubber and lets it grip again. Eventually the rubber will age harden and this trick won;t work but this can give you years more service.

Paper jam on Epsonstyles Photo 1290. How do I clear it?

Open your printers cover and remove any paper that got stuck. If they are stuck between the rollers, gently pull them out. Look for any tiny paper shreds that might be blocking a sensor or might as well stuck between rollers.

Repacing the color inks with black ink on the epson 1290

Well, since you say you'll be using new cartridges you shouldn't have any nozzle problems. About the worst case I can see would be the slight chance of getting too much ink on the paper resulting in wet paper and a stained platten roller. Seems like an interesting experiment over all.

Nozzle problems arise when reusing cartridges. The very thin metal film that is the nozzle assembly gets worn down as the print head moves over paper and after a number of pages printed the little holes that are the nozzles get larger making for fuzzy, wetter than it should be, streaky printing.

Enjoy,
Carl

Yepperz... Here is your fix

1. Click on START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS AND FAXES (or PRINTERS AND OTHER HARDWARE).
2. Right click your printer, and select PROPERTIES. (If your printer is not listed, click on VIEW INSTALLED PRINTERS first).
3. Select the ADVANCED tab.
4. Select PRINT DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER.
5. Click on APPLY (if applicable), then OK.
6. Restart your computer.
7. Try printing now.

This happens to me very occasionally. Shut down the computer completely, unplug the usb cable from the computer and reinsert. Unplug the usb cable from the printer and reinsert. Switch on the printer. Start up the computer.

Epson 1290 paper feed problem

wow..springs that are weakened...unfortunately, that's one key weakness in these sort of printers. When I do a repair, if the springs are shot(not unlike a car, eh?), it's time to replace em. Not much can be done to restore the tensile strength of something like that.
