.Net and Java are widely used development environments, who is using only Windows platform and who is looking for faster development time maybe will go for .Net. It supports multiple programming environments. Java, is focused on only one programming language but that language is supported in multiple environments, it's independent of any operating system and middleware because of Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
