Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Hi I have a 32" UMC lcd tv/dvd and have sky plugged in through the scart. For the past 5weeks or so the tv flicks itself over to the dvd player mode on its own, when there is no dvd in the dvd player, and this can happen several times a day. I have taken the batteries out of the remote and it still does it so have figured it is a problem with the tv. Have also unplugged sky and put the cord into the secondary scart input and made sure everything is plugged in tight. Any suggestions?

Hi, kitty_katzzz
Did you get a sensible solution for your TV problem? My 26" UMC tv/dvd combo has started doing the same thing (jumping to dvd player) a month ago. How have you cured it?

I have Virgin and have the same problem on my UMC 37" so guessing this is a UMC problem. When I called tech support number was told it is a common fault linked to cheap receivers on the TV that get confused.

Hi by hookup do you mean "connect to tv"? "language problems"
If so you need the manual for the dvd. Online there is this good help MANUALSONLINE.COM
While you are looking for the manual you can connect the tv and the dvd with a scart cable. It says by the plug where to put which scart plug.
Good luck

Got sky installed today only thing getting on screen is "no video signal"

Sounds like the "channel" you are trying to watch on is not the one it's plugged into, or a faulty lead.
check the connection from the sky box to the tv, and select the av or hdmi channel that it is plugged into on the tv.
check the lead by swapping it for a known good one, for example from a dvd or ps3, but unplug from the dvd/ps3 and plug into the sky box(make sure that all the units are powered off when swapping leads) and try on the channel you normally watch/use the dvd/ps3.
If you suspect the sky is at fault, press menu on the sky remote and then flick through all the av/hdmi channels until you find the menu, then try to reinstall/retune the sky box.
If that don't work phone sky......................

How do i connect dvd recorder to tv only receiving sky channels through skybox

If you have two scart sockets on your tv,then connect a scart from av1 on the dvd into the tv,then connect a scart from the sky box into av2 on the dvd, your recording channel on the dvd will be av2.
If you only have on socket on the tv,then connect a scart from av1 on the dvd into the sky box, your recording channel will be av1,connected like this you may have to turn off the sky to watch dvd`s.

I have a philips dvdr70

From the Sky box, plug one SCART lead to your recorder and plug another to your TV. Then plug a SCART from the TV to the recorder.

You can then select the SCART connector for the sky box to record programs.

This will work after the digital switchover. The switchover is only for 'normal' tv signals from your tv aerial

Samsung le40a lcd - picture quality

Hi - I have some suggestions. The following factors effect picture quality:
1. Source (because LCD TVs have much higher picture quality than traditional CRT "Tube" TVs, the worse your source material, the worse it looks on a LCD TV).
DVD and Sky/Digital TV should look excellent on this TV when connected with a good quality Scart lead (nothing too expensive, but a Oxygen Free Copper Gold lead may help) directly into one of the TV's Scart inputs (avoid using "switching" boxes for multiple equipment).
Also, bear in mind that this is a HUGE screen (40 inches I think) and will REALLY show up bad source material.
The best advice I can give is, if you have HD-ready equipment use HDMI connections for everything (ideally with an HD-uplscaling DVD player which will "improve" the quality of standard DVDs on the TV - I recommend models by Philips) and check that you are in "Movie" or "Cinema" mode on the TV.
Make sure that all of your equipment, like your Sky digibox, is set to 16:9 mode (not 4:3) aswell to preserve the true widescreen aspect ratio.
Hope that helps!

Dvd player not connected properly to TV?

You might need one or both of:

RF modulator.
AV switch (perhaps from an old video game console)

The modulator accepts the RCA plugs from your DVD player (yellow, white, red) and outputs an RF signal.

You can then plug the ouput of the modulator into the aerial input of the skybox, via the switch, if desired.

Setting up

on the back of your sky box there are two scart ports. one says tv and the other video.

from the sky box connect a scart from the tv port to the back of your tv.

from the DVD connect a scart from that to the video scart port on the back of your sky box.

now when you turn your DVD player on it will override the sky and come through on your telly without having to change the scarts around.

what i would like you to do now. is get an RF lead. ( aerial lead) plug this into the RF out socket on the back of your sky box either one will do ie RF out 1 or 2 makes no difference.
Then plug the other end into the back of your Tv if you have an aerial cable coming into your home then simply plug this straight into the aerial port on the back of your sky box.

The last thing your going to have to do now is tune your telly in. if you click on channel 6 on your telly then go to menu, setup, and manual tune.. A good tip for you put your sky on the TV GUIDE screen this will make life easier for yourself as you will know its the sky channel.
once you find it STORE.

now when you turn your dvd player on if you select channel 6 you will now have the sky channel so you can record whatever you like

Hope this sorts you out.
cheers
