This is a clear evidence of a broken motor coupler. It is the one that connects the drive motor shaft and transfer its mechanical energy to the transmission assembly . The mechanical energy is not transferred to the transmission and therefore result in the agitator not to agitate and the drum not to spin. The sound of doing it means the motor is running. The drain pump works because it is directly coupled to the rear spline of the motor making the pump turn whenever the motor runs. During the agitation cycle, the motor runs in such a way that the pump works in forcing the water in while in the drain/spin cycle, the motor runs in the opposite direction and the pump forces the water out to the drain hose. Replace the motor coupler to address the problem. Disconnect power before attempting any repair work.

Release the console from the top of the cabinet depending on the model of your machine then pull forward and up on the console and lay it back on the hinges.

The cabinet is attached to the rear of the washer by two brass-colored retaining clips. Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the turned-up edge of the clip, located on both sides, anwasher fills w water but - 4e2277c.jpgback to release the clip from the slot in the cabinet.

Open and hold the lid while grabbing the cabinet front opening then tilt the top of the cabinet toward you by pulling the cabinet away from the base. This releases the front and back slots of the cabinet from the tabs in the front and back of the base. Remove the motor mounting plate to remove the coupler part in the transmission side more easily.

Once the coupler parts are properly installed, put the rubber grommet into the coupler in the motor then line up the remaining slots on the grommet with the coupler prongs in the transmission and put them together.

Secure the motor with the clips and the clips with the screws then reconnect the motor wiring harness to the motor terminals and reinstall the pump in reverse order of the removal steps.

Bring the cabinet to the front of the washer then slide the front bottom rail of the cabinet under the rail at the base of the machine then lay down the cabinet into position. Make sure the slots in the cabinet sit into the tabs at the base of machine.

Reconnect the lid switch harness then push the retaining clips back down into position to secure the cabinet to the rear of the machine. Reinstall and secure the console to complete the repair.

Washer will not cycle

The cycle doesn't advance When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.

Washer filling over and over

Check the placement of your drain hose. This may be a simple issue of siphoning. The following link explains:

Make sure you have a sufficient air gap at the top of the drain stand pipe, and that the drain hose is not placed in the standpipe too deep. This can cause the water to constantly siphon out of the wash tub and the washer will continue to fill to try to maintain the water level.

Please let me know if you have questions, or if you require additional assistance. I hope this helps you.

Machine fills and agitates, but won't drain

It sounds like you pump is clogged. If there is something stuck in your pump the motor can't spin it to drain the water. If that is the problem then it's easy to fix. Simply clear the pump and put it back on, just make sure to clamp off the hoses to the pump with hose clamps or you will have water every where. If that is not the problem though then it means that your timer is bad and that is a little more expensive. Try the pump first though and hope that that is all it is. If not, like I said, you will need a new timer but most likely your pump is just clogged with something that is causing the pump motor to not spin. It could be a coin or a hair pin or even a sock or something. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
