Does it spark?
Does the butane come out?
How old is it, and how much has it been used?
Did you put cheap butane in it at some point?

SOURCE: My Weller pyropen does not ignite all of the time

I have the same issue. I overcame it by replacing the tip with a new one. I estimate I get about a year from a tip. I cannot tell why the old tips make the pyropen hard to ignite.

Weller Pyropen WPA2 extinguishes itself after a few minutes.

Gas (condensation really) may be freezing and constricting flow. Try warming the tip a bit with a hair dryer see if it goes longer.

Misplaced Manual, what butane container to get.

Any butane will work, but the big name-brands are usually filtered better and less likely to cause problems. The biggest issue is the nozzle -- there are a lot of different sizes. Any Weller butane can will fit perfectly (usually cheapest at the local Sears store), but any can with multiple adapters will also work.

If you have an old can that fits, save the nozzle when it's empty. It should fit a different can if you can't find a can that fits the tool.

My Pyropen will not ignite

Not enough information. That's an extremely vague description of the problem. There's no way to suggest a fix without knowing more about it.

Does it spark?
Does butane come out of it?
Is the cylinder full?
Do the switches move properly?
How old is it? How much use has it seen?
Is it an intermittent problem, or constant?

Hi i have an old weller soldering iron and it wont light up, do i have to have the 2 slide controls in a certain position

A soldering iron is composed of a heated metal tip and an insulated handle. Heating is often achieved electrically, by passing an electric current (supplied through an electrical cord or battery cables) through the resistive material of a heating element. Another heating method includes combustion of a suitable gas, which can either be delivered through a tank mounted on the iron (flameless), or through an external flame.

Hi all, Just bought a WSTA6 iron, also wouldn't ignite reliably - just figured out you have to block the little air vent holes either side of the start switch with thumb & finger for 2-3 secs. while starting - 2-handed procedure :( -Now works like a charm :)

Couldn't find this info anywhere ???

Dunill lighter - how do I fill it with butane?

  1. Ignore that other load of tosh.
  2. Do not refill your lighter immediately after using it. You should allow enough time for the lighter to cool off.
  3. The flame height adjuster on the bottom of the lighter should be set to minimum by turning CLOCKWISE with a small screw driver. The smaller, usually Phillips head, screw is for dismantling the lighter and should not be touched. The adjusting screw is a larger screw with a standard (slot) head. Some lighters come with a key to turn the adjusting screw. Some models have an adjusting wheel that requires no screwdriver. Please DO NOT FORCE the adjusting screw. If it is hard to turn in one direction this most likely means that the adjustment screw is already at the (-) or (+) limit. Try turning the other direction.
  4. Push the refilling valve with a screwdriver to let out the air inside until no hissing sound is heard. Hold the lighter away from your face. Air inside the fuel tank prevents butane gas from being injected into the tank and causes the lighter to malfunction.
  5. ALWAYS refill the lighter in an upside down position to avoid injecting air into the lighter.
  6. Shake the butane gas refill can, press the stem of the refill can directly onto the refill valve on the bottom of the lighter. Keep them in a straight position and let the gas go into the lighter for about 5 seconds. Repeat for a shorter period if needed.
  7. Allow 3-4 minutes to let gas and lighter components reach room temperature.
  8. Turn the flame adjuster counter clockwise to reach the desired flame height.
  9. Hold the lighter away from your face and body and ignite it carefully. If there is no flame, repeat the refilling process.

  10. If you experience gas leakage with a hissing sound while refilling the lighter, either you are not holding the lighter and gas can in a straight position or the stem of the gas can is not suitable for the lighter. In this case you need to use an adaptor which is usually supplied with the gas can.
  11. Premium butane is required to ensure optimum performance of your lighter. Lighters require the cleanest butane available at a pressure of 45 psi. Recommended using Premium Triple Refined Butane Gas that are packaged in 10-13 oz. cans with a metal fill tip nozzle. Non-premium butane with plastic fill tip nozzles are not recommended as they may cause inconsistent ignition and performance. Impurity of the gas can cause clogging of the burner valve or malfunctioning.

Troubleshooting: If you are having problems with your lighter, make sure that:

You are holding the lighter upside down while refilling. If you did not hold the lighter upside down, there will be air inside the butane tank. You will need to let the air out and try refilling again.

The flame height is properly adjusted.

You are not using cheap or incorrect fuel.

There is no dirt or debris in the lighter. Try blowing forcefully into the top part of the unlit lighter.
