And what exactly are you looking to do? Put it to legal wattage? Most radio's are peaked and tuned these days. FCC no longer polices CB radio.

Hi, my name is John. You will need to take the unit to have a alignment and tune-up done on it by a licence tech.It should cost around $35.00 to $40.00 ...hope this was helpful...Rate this solution on the four thumbs-up...good luck...John

What is Dead Key on a CB Radio?

Deadkey is slang it is CW or Carrier wave which is RF power produced before modulation/audio is mixed in which stimulates PEP wattage slang being SWING WATTS. A Watt Meter is used to measure it which is often a combination device Wattage/SWR/Modulation meter.

R/sig meter spikes on my uniden pro538w cb when keying mic

Does the radio put out and receive? And this could be as simple as your SWR switch isn't in the right position. But if your radio seems to work fine then I wouldn't worry to much about the meter it could be out of line I've seen that many times even on new radios.

I put in a new battery and now my radio will not work. I checked fuses in dash and under hood but all looked good. Hoe do i get my radio back on?? And the Nissan place closest to me wants to charge me...

just because a fuse "looks" good doesn't mean it is, locate the radio fuse and check it with a meter, if you don't have a meter, replace it anyway ,, what the heck, a dollar fuse vs what the dealer wants isn't such a bad idea

Only doing about 45 watts this is the 80 watt version s- meter not working

What kind of meter do you have. That may be correct If it's an rms only meter that's all it will show it won't show the peak wattage. You would need a peak reading meter. If you do have a peak meter then check your swr's. If they are high then it will hurt the output of the radio. We. Dont charge to check out any radio.

When trying to calibrate my corba 29 ltd classic I can not reach the CAL mark?

that means 2 things. either your dead key is too low ie you have it set up for an amplifier.. if it is. try finding a tone to modulate the signal a lil bit to give you some wattage. some phones may have an app for that lol...
or you swr's are high and it already messed up the radio and you do not have enough wattage to move the meter.
That is the normal problems for that. other than a messed up meter always double check with a second meter..
If you need more help let me know.

Does it seem to be talking on the right channel??

Check to see if D10, which is supposed to be an N1004 diode, and see if it's been replaced with a jumper.

If that's the case, then the final is volted. This mod gains some wattage but can make a radio dirty. Putting an N1004 back in may fix the issue.

However...

Usually the radio will deadkey on the right freq.

The VCO could be off, and the radio may need to be aligned. Could the person you got the radio from have randomly turned VR's in the radio trying to mod it?

Without an ocilliscope you cannpt fully align the radio, but if you have a volt meter and a watt meter, you can do some of the alignment.

here is an alignment guide.

But if you can hear people on the correct channel, and they can hear you fine, it could be just a volted final.

I have a cobra 200 gtl dx and some one make modification on it to get more power and more modulation but i see in my books the modification to raise up on the board in front of my cb tell me to raise up...

you do not do it by resistance. To turn up the radio it is a variable resistor. What you do is connect a watt meter that can read PEAK or PEP watts AND AVERAGE or dead key watts.

First you check it on avg watts. Hook the radio up in line with the watt meter and set it on avg watts. key the radio. Stock is 4 watts. A lot of times when you peak a radio, you lower the dead key.(thats keying with no audio.) This allows you to get more modulation wattage, or swing wattage. If that has been done it will probably do 2 or 3 watts. If it has had the AM power raised in it, it could be more, this is no good. You want your dead key a bit lower.

Now check it on peak. Flip the meter to peak and make an AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH noise into the radio. It should swing to anywhere between 15 and 20 watts.

You adjust the AMC while giving it audio and watching the meter on peak to adjust the modulation. 4 watts is legal modulation.
