1 Answer

Hi, my compaq presario sr2032x wont boot. Power light is ON, PSU light is green. CPU fan runs at full speed. I can hear HD sound too. No display. Keyboard light would blink once and then nothing. It was working until last night. Nothing changed physically for this computer

Thanks for the response. The monitor is good. I connected it to another computer to check. I replaced the onboard video, still dont see anything on the monitor. The monitor does get the signal.. its just that there is no info. When I disconnect the video cable, the monitor shows the "no signal" message, when I connect, the message stops but there is no other output.

I did this too. As mentioned earlier, the keyboard blinks for a brief second and then no response. There are MoBo's avaialble for $70, but I am not sure whether the problem is with MoBo or PSU sending low power to MoBo. I guess its time to upgrade. :-(

Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.

Actually it boots, just that you don't see it. Try using another monitor - even a tv will do: disconnect the present monitor, connect the new one and reboot. If you get an image then the monitor is dead, replace it. If you don't then the onboard video card id dead, get a new one and try again. If even now it.s dead then you need a new motherboard.

Last attempt - try to enter the BIOS by pressing F1 during boot. If even this fails then your motherboard is dead. Replace it.

I had same problem... replaced memory, motherboard, cpu, cpu fan, cmos battery, power supply and every now and then it boots up... like I said... only every now and then, mostly not at all... everything acts like it's working but cpu is cold. even went as far as replacing the case. it's the craziest thing I've seen in over 25 yrs of working on pc's. At first when I had the motherboard in I had it standing upright in the case... it worked... when I put in in place it wouldn't work. I put insulators inbetween case and motherboard... still wouldn't work. Since I've basically completely rebuilt it I don't know what else to do...

Won't start but CPU fan vibrates but will not go full blast. Intermittant

It appears you have a faulty CPU fan and it is causing the CPU to overheat and shut down.
I suggest you replace the CPU fan. remove any dust from the heatsink and put new heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink.

HP P4SD, its running good with 4 gb RAM, P4 3.0ghz, and a couple sata hd. The problem is the fan output voltage, i havent been able to read the output chassis and cpu cooler pins voltage cause i can find...

"i can find my dmm?" did you mean CAN'T?
"its clearly off", what is off?
the fans are 3 pins,2 are power, one is RPM tachometer.
"it all works fine", so you can boot and run any OS, ?

"the voltage reads +12vdc", where, at fan or PSU?
the fans run off 12vdc, they are DC motors (from outside fan)
if the fan runs slow at 12vdc the the fan is bad or is a low RPM
fan, as some are, bigger fans run slow, for less noise.!

first is the CPU fan it must run full speed, if not the CPU will overheat in seconds and ALL CPU shut them selves (by there selves) this way. so CPU fan is first. what does it do... there....?

then BIOS screens. GOT BIOS UP? and running? with, ESC key pressed>.
let me guess your symptoms
1: PC dead. will not boot.
2: BIOS dead.
3: all fans DEAD,.
4: power switch works and all PSU voltages read right, (seems not)/?
5: if the PSU power wire reads right(DMM), matching the side sticker voltages, and the CPU is dead, the MOBO is dead, or CPU is toasted.

here is a modern PSU, sticker.
see 5 to 10 power lines, see them. all must read correctly
if a fan is dead, then its dead if 12vdc is present on the fan power pins.

Hi
With that scenario i would recommend you check the front panel assembly where the power button is located and also have you tried to reset the CMOS from the motherboard.

Compaq presario doesnt boot upon powering up

boot into the bios or if bios support diagnostics boot into that (typically F1 of F10 on power up) If that is not an option boot off the CD recovery disk and run diagnostics on the HD. Let me know we can take it from there.

Can't get computer to turn on (compaq presario 5000)

Either your Hard drive (hd) crashed or your hd cable or port is faulty. if your software is corrupt boot with a boot disk (assume you are using XP or Vista), press R on the blue options screen. you will be given a black dos prompt screen. Type in fixboot and type Y for an answer.
