I have the Acer AspireOne. I suddenly started getting sound distortion on songs played in itunes--it skips then plays really slowly and with a mechanical type sound to it. I thougt there was a problem with itunes so I uninstalled and reinstalled it with no luck. Then, I started getting the same distortion on the Windows Startup music so I knew the issue was not with a particular program, but with the computer itself. I have checked my Realtek drivers and the system says everything is running properly. I hope that I do not have to wipe my computer and reinstall everything. I tried all of the trouble shooting options on the computer, but am still having a problem. Can anyone tell me where to find a safe driver update or if there is something else wrong with my computer's sound? Thank you!

The fault is from your laptop speaker. I think it has a hole inside and maybe that's why it distorts. Or maybe the sound/volume is too loud and the speaker does not have the capacity.

I would advice you to get an external speaker for your laptop.

It sounds like the nano memory is corrupted. If you have all the music still on the computer, try doing a restore on the nano using iTunes

sorry for the late reply. im using windows. im quite sure that there's no virus involved with the distortion of my sound. this is what happened.

1. im surfing the net while listening to music(full volume)
2.)then suddenly the sound gets a bit distorted(jumps,skips)
3.)then everything hangs up which forced me to reboot
4.)the windows loading screen became too long(like 5mins) before it takes me to the main desktop(start up programs loads like 48 years also).
5.)when i play music ,the sound is very much(like alien,"rrrrrrr")

i tried reinstalling the drivers but nothing was fixed. i've even tried Regcure.

i just formatted my notebook and voila its back to normal.
i dunno but i think playing loud music using laptop, or in my case notebook speakers would cause this problem. im using external speakers now and i've got no problems. i just hope that there would be a fix to this problem so that i wont have to reformat if the problem occurs again

Though I do not have a ipod shuffle, it sounds like you set it to run on "sample" which is a setting to play only a few seconds of the song then stop, are you using any other program besides itunes?

Hello there! Wow... sounds like you've really been through the proverbial wringer with this issue already! You have indeed tried almost every step I would have suggested already, but here's another thing or two to try: 1) Burn an audio CD of this song. It's a true waste of a CD, but fortunately CDs are quite inexpensive! 2) Eject the CD. 3) In iTunes, find the problem song and add something to the title to make it differentiate it... for instance, if the song was, "Freebird", I would rename it, "Freebird CORRUPT". 4) Re-insert the CD, and now rip this new version of the song into iTunes. 5) Sync up your iPod and see if the issue is resolved. Unfortunately, if you did not back up your music, the songs cannot be recovered. iTunes allows for one download of a song purchased.
