Question about Whirlpool 21.0 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator with IceMagic Plus Ice Maker

1 Answer

The freezer and refrigerator are not cold. There is a pulsating noise from the compressor. When I unplugged the refrigerator for 5 min and plug it back in, it is running but it is not getting cold. I unplugged the compressor relay and plugged it back in. Is the problem in the start up relay for the compressor?

freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then…

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Samsung rm255lash is not getting cold and freezing

If the compressor runs it's not a control fault. It all points to a refrigerant leak

My Danby refrigerator stopped working after the power went out over the weekend. I have adjusted the temp. dial but nothing appears to make a difference. Is there anything I can do to reset the fridge?

Try to unplug it again let it set 5 min and then plug it back in. If that doesn't do it you may have to replace the compressor relay where the wires hook to the compressor, thats a fairly easy fix on that unit.

I have a whirlpool fridge/freezer which after a power cut will now only register 7 on the freezer, although still seems quite cold. How can I get it back to -18 ? Thanks

If the power loss was for 5 mins of less.... just unplug it for 20 mins and plug it back in. The compressor is probably "High side cycling" and the thermal overload is tripping on the compressor every 4 - 5 minutes for about 40 seconds. Unplugging it 20 minutes will allow the coolant system to stabilize and the compressor to re-start.

... Hearing an "electrical-like noise" coming from

Could be the compressor trying to start. It may be cutting out on high heat then reseting itsself.

Try unpluging unit for 10 15 min.If the refrig will still not start have a service tech come out.

My Maytag refrigerator model #PTB2454GR is leaking from between seal and freezer door frame. Still kind of cool but not enough (stuff in freezer thawed). Fan is running fine but compressor short-cycling...

replace the ptc relay overload on the side of the compressor body and this will take care of your issue,it just unplugs off the compressor and the replacement plugs in

Refrig is running, but freezer defrosted and food side seems to be getting warm. Always blew warm air from bottom front, now just cold air.

Sounds like the compressor is not running. Try unplugging for 15 min. to allow compressor to reset. If you hear a clicking noise you may have a bad main board.

It's not cold and there is a clicking noise every 5-10 min

As long as it is doing that I think you better unplug to prevent damage to the internal overload. The start relay, start capacitor and external overload may need replaced. We need to check the compressor windings also before you purchase. Most times it is those parts I listed above and sometimes the compressors age and condition are factors to consider. I will walk you through this if you like, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Kitchen Aid refrigerator is making a very loud noise!

when you transported this unit did you lay it down or stand it up? If it was layed down then you should of waited at least 24 hours before plugging it up again to give the oil in the compressor time to settle back down. Actually either way it was transported it still needed the 24 hour rest time. So if you automatically plugged it in after transportation you could have messed up the compressor. Let it set unplugged for 2 days then plug it in and see what happens. If loud noise persists then you know the compressor is shot. Goog Luck.

Check the compressor.
Unplug for 15-20 min. plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will have to be behind the ref to listen and make sure you hear the compressor start and not just a fan running. If you hear a clicking noise then the compressor relay is bad.
