Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

1 Answer

The temperature in the refrigerator side is not cooling....the freezer side is very cold but there seems to be no air coming into the refrig side unless you adjust the freezer control down to the lowest setting.

That blank post wasn't my fault; it appears FixYa needs some repair-
    I'll try it again here:

Check in the inside rear of the refrigerator cabinet for vents.
When you hear the compressor running, wet your fingers and hold them in front
of the vent to check for air flow.

If it seems there is none, then the fan that is supposed to distribute the cold
air from the freezer is no longer running.

If this is true, go to the Sears parts department and enter make
and model number to see if they have a line drawing illustration of your unit.

This will allow you to see if this fan is accessible enough for you
to DIY or if you need a pro.

Vegetables in crisper are frozen, as well as liquids in bottom 1/2 of fridge door. The fridge & freezer temp controls won't adjust to our settings. Also, we're getting ice, but no water will dispense.

The freezer cools the refrigerator, so you actually get very cold air passing from the freezer to the refrig. The air from the freezer enters the refrig on the top and falls to the bottom where it is drawn back into the freezer. The temperature of the refrig is regulated by a thermostat and a fan that runs when the thermostat calls for cooling. If the refrig thermostat is faulty and causes the fan to run more than it should, there will be a freezing problem in the refrig at the bottom because cold air falls and warm air rises. If the refrig is thermostat is calling for cooling constantly, this will take more cold air from the freezer than is normal. Your freezer temp might be higher than normal and the refrig will be colder then desired. If the fan from the freezer is running constantly I would suspect a bad refrig thermostat.

Have ge gt mdl# gts22jbpbrww. the freezer is cold but the refrig is not getting cold. I took apart the cover showing me the freezer fan and it is not working could this be why the refrig is not getting...

Yes, if the fan is not forcing the cold air from the freezer section to the refrigerator section, then it will be warmer than it should be. Also check to make sure that the cooling tubes aren't blocked with frost/ice. If you put a hair dryer to the cooling tube openings you should feel the air flow on the other side.

Refrigerator does not cool below 50. Freezer side is ok

all cooling comes from thefreezer, lower down air flow to freezer and increase air flow to refrigerator, this should help.

Refrig side not cooling....freezer side operating fine

Check that the damper vent that sends cold air from the freezer into the fresh food side is not blocked by contents. Check that the damper is opening to allow cool air to transfer. Put the fridge into diagnostic mode to check the thermistors.

After emptying the ice bin on 2 year old side frigidaire, the freezer is OK, but the fresh food side has stopped cooling. Any ideas?

check that the fan in the freezer is running,it circulates the cold air,if it isclose freezer door, open refrig. door lookto the upper left you will see where the cold air enters the refrig compartment and should fill air coming thruough vent this is a motorized unit and they sometimes fail, also check the return air hole located at bottomof refrig.sometimes get blocked by plastic bags etc

New whirlpool refrig. freezer ok at 0 but refrig

The freezer get the first crack at cooling and combination units have a fan and adjustable vents to steal some of the cooling capacity for the refrigerator. The vent are normally located in the back of the refrigerator compartment and with these, you can balance the cooling capacity between freezer and fridge. I recommend you swap your thermometer back and forth until you get the balance you want; typically the freezer should be at 5 degrees F or below and the fridge at 35-40 degrees F. Adjusting the control for temperature and having the vents set to supply the cold air you want in each compartment should give you the range you want in each.

Refrig no cool but freezer is

You have a defrost problem. Details on this can be seen at:

http://www.houstongofarappliancerepair.com/Refrigerator.html

What happens is all the cold air in the refrigerator comes from behind the freezer wall at the bottom area. It is frozen solid behind that wall blocking air flow to the refrigerator side.

Cause of problem is either a thermostat(most common), timer, or heater elements. Goodluck,
Brian
