Why won't it do decorative stitches?

Have you selected the proper stitch. Look at the decorative stitch line 1,2,3,or 4, then the number above the stitch. Your screen should say 1:24 for line one, stitch 24. Make sure you are using the recommended foot. Embroidery unit is disengaged. Then makes sure you have selected the proper weave or thickness of material button. If it still won't sew, try a different type of fabric button and try that. This will change the tension. The tension could be too tight or too loose for that stitch.

The feed dogs will not come back up to the proper height after lowering them to do a button. How do I get them to come back up. I tried the dial, which has worked in the past.

You will need to move the stitch dial/slide/button back to normal stitching position but also actually try to sew on it.

The feed dogs will not return to normal postion until machine has gone through a full stitch sequence so they may look like they haven't returned up. Just put some fabric under the foot, lower the pressure foot and try stitching a stitch or two.

Stitches are not connecting top to bottom

Try re threading the machine with the presser foot up.

When you thread with the presser foot down, the thread/string cannot properly enter the tension control.

No control = looping stitching that pulls out.

If you do not have a manual, you may be able to download a free one at Brother's website.

While stitching interlock system is not working

Make sure the feed dogs are up properly. Under the arm of the machine, at the front, there is a dial. Turn it towards the picture showing jagged teeth as far as you can.
