Check that the carburettor and fuel lines are clean. If the unit has not been used for a while the gas (petrol) will evaporate leaving the oil behind to choke up the fuel system. Dirty fuel will do the same. When adding fuel use a funnel with gauze filter in it and always empty the fuel tank and then run the motor until it dies when you've finished work.

I also have a Homelite Easy reach. I emptied all the gas. Replaced the spark plug, replaced the fuel filter and fuel supply and return lines, but still would not start. At full choke the engine would start, but die out unless I flipped the butterfly to run and gave it full throttle. The carb adjustment screws are "tamper-proof", but I took a utility knife and cutaway the plastic exposing the screw adjustments. Turned both screws clock-wise all the way in, and then 2 turns out, and it started right up. I had to do some adjustments after this, but runs great now.

If there was fuel/oil mix left in the tank for a long period the ceramic filter in the tank may be gummed with oil. You can carefully remove the filter after you empty the fuel, ensure while pulling filter hold line for it may fall back into the tank. Then you may have a time fishing the line out. Clean ceramic filter with carburetor cleaner, Re-install filter. Don't forget to replenish with fresh fuel mixture according to specifications for your trimmer.

Check spark?

Benjamin, remove spark plug, attach plug wire onto plug, hold end of plug against cylinder head or a metal fastener that you know is going into engine for good ground. Make sure engine switch is in the on position, now pull engine over, observing the gap in plug for spark. If no spark get a new plug and try.

What's the gas oil ratio for model UT20044A Weed trimmer?

Homelite says to use there Premiums Exact Oil at 50:1 ratio. Then they say if you don't use the Premium Exact to use high grade 2 cycle at the ratio of 2.6 oz. per gallon of gas. That also works out to very nearly 50:1. Do not use regular motor oil.

Hi, try bringing the high speed mixture screw out a quarter turn. There are two screws side by side on the carby, it is the one closest to the air filter. If that does not work there is a spark arrestor screen in the muffler that may be blocked. This can be cleaned with a wire brush and refitted. Regards Phil

Homelite 10540 chainsaw 35CC chainsaw won't start when hot

Go to: http://www.drystacked com for a 12 page article on Walbro carburetor theory and troubleshooting. Check particularly, the position of the gasket in the lower chamber. Check the spark plug for blue, snappy spark when the engine is hot. If ok, place a small amount of fuel mix in the cylinder and try for start. If it pops several times, look to the fuel system. Check the fuel filter, air filter, and muffler for plugging. Does the primer bulb fill with fuel after several pumps? Check the fuel lines for decay or other damage. When the engine is hot, try not using the choke, but set the fast idle. Hope some of this helps!

My Homelite UT-20002A trimmer have a hard starting problem. I remove the muffler and cleaned the carbon in the exhaust port. I also replaced the spark plug, but still the trimmer is dificult to start.

If you can, check to make sure there is a spark. Check the plug and notice if there is a presence of gas/oil mix on the plug or in the cylinder. Also, make sure the air filter is clean Try to make sure all bolts and screws are tight as lots of vibrations can loosen some of them.. An air leak on the engine could be causing your problems. A carburetor that is in need of a rebuild will do the same.. Finally an engine that is badly worn and has weak compression will not start, period.
