Question about Hitachi 50V500 50 in. HD-Ready LCD Television
This model and the 60V500 made the same year are both prone to damage from the lamp to the "optical light engine" and both are now part of several class action lawsuits concerning both models.
At first the engine was about 1100 dollars exchange and then dropped to 225 exchange as a lot of them failed in the first two years---current price is something over 600 and only available rebuilt----the more hours the set is used the more likely the optics in the engine will be damaged by heat.
Clearly, the set is not worth a 600 dollar part plus major labor to replace.
I do not like to give bad news but this is what is wrong, consider getting involved in one of the class action suits, sooner or later Hitachi will have to settle this or the courts will.
If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.
