SOURCE: oil to gas ratio
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
It actually depends on the age of the unit. Anything within the last 5 years is 50 - 1. (Air quality standards!) Before that 40 - 1 and in the year 2000 it was 32 - 1.
Let me just say that running a unit with a 50 - 1 fuel mixture ratio leaves no room for error in the ability of the mixed oil to lubricate the engine and the engine piston will wear quicker than and engine with a higher ratio oil 32 -1. (Fact manufacturers don't want anyone to know!)
This on line calculator is great for computing mixtures with the exact quantities:
As far as what 2 cycle oil to use.... pick one. They ALL have to meet the same quality standards to even be called 2 cycle oil. Extensive testing has shown that no matter the mixture ratios form 32 - to 50 -1 they all eventually form carbon on the top of the piston. It was noted that carbon on the piston forms faster at 32 - 1 than it does at 50 - 1. (For what that is worth.)
Thanks for choosing FixYa,

SOURCE: do I mix the gas
Your MightyLite trimmer requires a 50:1 fuel mix. Use a high quality 2 cycle oil that is made for lawn equipment. Do not use outboard boat oil...it will cause your trimmer to run too hot. If you use the mix that has fuel stabilizer in it, then the bottle will be 3.2 ounces. Use one 3.2 ounce per gallon of gasoline.

Hi There, I'd recomend using Stihl Two Stroke Oil. Mix it at 50:1. Its the best stuff you can get. Never let me down yet, used in all my chainsaws and strimmers.

Testimonial: "Thanks Rich I will try 50:1."
WELL IF THERE IS NO 2 STROKE OIL TANK THEN YOU MIX IT WITH THE GAS. THIS IS HOW THE ENGINE GETRS ITS LUBRICATION AND WILL BLOW UP AND SEIAZE WITHOUT IT.MOST OF THESE SMALL ENGINS RUN AR 20 TO 1. OUTBAURDS RUN AT 50 TO 1. IF YOU PUT TO LITTLE ITS NO GOOD AS MENTIONED ABOVE. IF YOU [PUT TOO MUCH IT IS NT AS BAD AS IT WILL SMOKE A BIT AND POSSIBLE FOUL THE PLUG AFTER A WHILE. I WOULD GO WITH 230 TO ONE THAT WOULD BE 20 PARTS GAS TO 1 PART OIL 20GAL GAS TO 1 GAL OIL IS THE SAME AS 5 GAL OF GAS TO 1 QUART OIL OR 2 1/2 GAL GAS TO A PINT OIL OR 1 1/4 GAL GAS TO 1/2 PINT OILM GET THE PICTURE NOW. ITS DIVISION. AFTER A WHILE OF RUNNING IF IT SMKES AND THE PLUG FOULS JUST ADD A BIT MORE GAS TO YOUR MIX AND CLEAN THE PLUS WITH AN OLD TOOTH BRUSH AND I ALWAYS MARK MY GAS CAN WITH BLACK MARKER OIL/GAS MIX 20:1 OR WHATEVER.
