Hello,
Vanguard heaters were made by a company called Desa Int'l, which unfortunately, went out of business. I have installed a lot of these over the past 20 years, is there anything I can help you with? Did your heater come with the long metal hanging bracket? There is a rectangular metal blank on the back of these you can knock out and install an electric blower inside. These heaters are not field serviceable, meaning if you got a natural gas heater and want to use it for LP-gas, you can't convert it, and vice-versa. Let me know if I can help. Douglas

I've gone to sevral places that sold your unvented gas heaters, asking about a fan to attach to the top to prevent problems with the continued heat build up on one spot on the roof. They all told me...

First, let me clear something up. FixYa, does not stock nor, sell any parts for anything. However, in most cases, we can tell you where to find them.

Unfortunately, DESA International went bankrupt several years ago and is no longer in business. However, some parts are still available thru Mater Parts Distributors. You will need to have the correct Model Number of your heater to find the blower you're looking for. It isn't a case of one size fits all.

http://www.masterparts.net/

Having been a DESA/Vanguard dealer for many years, I am concerned about the "continued heat build up on one spot on the roof." By "roof", I'm assuming that you are referring to the top of the heater cabinet. The heater cabinets do get hot, that's normal. But, if it's getting extremely hot, then that's a issue, that a blower is not going to solve.

The question then arises, what is causing this extreme heat build up in just one spot of the heater cabinet? Has it done it from the start? Has the unit been serviced and checked annually? Was it professionally installed? Is it a Natural Gas or Propane unit? What color are the flames, when it's burning? All these things play a role in what's causing the problem and should be addressed, before a blower is installed. With Vent-free/Unvented Gas heating appliances, you should always err on the side of caution and safety.

I sincerely hope that I have helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I have a vanguard propane wall heater, 5 burners Model#vp2600c that the two middle burners flame goes above the burners and now has started to burn through at the top, what all parts do i need to replace?

The burner and anything else that was damaged. You might want to get the advice of a local professional. Remember, this thing runs INSIDE your home, where you live, eat and sleep. You want it to be safe, my friend.

Thanks for your question at FixYa.com

Hi slowjam I am assuming it is a Natural Gas Heater. All it needs is a good blow out with compressed air. They tend to carbon up in the pilot light area. You will probably also find it is very dusty inside. Easiest way to clean the carbon out is to remove the hose at the heater and with compressed air blow through the fitting where you have removed the hose. Make sure you hold down the start button so the air can get through to the pilot light and jets. Don't connect the electricity for the fan when you do this. If you can get to the pilot light may pay you to hit it with some compressed air as well. Hope this helps. Regards Bryan
