The door itself closes just fine. The glass that is in the door is missing. Everything else about it works perfectly.

The glass helps to keep the radiation activity thatheats your food inside the microwave....this is not dangerous to you by eating the food but is dangerous to youif you are exposed to it directly...
Confusing I know... just don't use it till you get glass in it...or buy another one...

SOURCE: Inner 'glass' of door

The inner glass can and should be replaced. It protects the metal mesh screen from getting dirty, which can cause it to be damaged and allow microwave leakage. You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383 If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Broken microwave door glass

Be very careful with microwaves. I would not work on it myself. Technicians actually have a meter to measure for leaks after they put it back together. I would be surprised if you could get parts for it anyway. You risk life and limb if you get it wrong.

SOURCE: can you glue back a microwave door, if the edges

no, glues are no good in microwaves due to high temperatures, may give off toxic fumes etc. you need new door fittings which isnt easy to fit, take to approved dealer, he will also test for leakage out side the door.

SOURCE: The film on the inside of the microwave oven door

No, that must be patched or replaced. It's critical.

The film protects the door screen from getting food, grease or moisture in it, which can lead to corrosion and arcing.

The screen prevents microwave energy leakage, which can cause arcing and fire.

If the bad spot is not too big, you can cut it away and clean it squeaky clean and patch it with clear packing tape.

If it's too bad to patch, you'll have to see if you can get new film, or if you need to order the inner door panel or whole door.

A small crack is probably ok if you had a lot of leakage you will feel a tingle sensation in your hand if you are really worried take a small piece of foil and cover the crack that will prevent any radition from leaking, I used to repair microwave ovens and I know with the current models it is not possable for much to escape, unless there is a large hole I once serviced a commerial microwave that was used with most of the front glass missing, the user reported some tingling in his hand.

Door glass is lose and seal is leaking..moisture is forming on inside of glass

That is normally caused by the clear plastic adhesive cover either having been removed or missing. It covers the perforated door inner and stops condensation and food particles from getting inside the door cavity where is cannot be cleaned.

My over the oven model 665.61629100 kenmore has cracked door

The outer door frame CAN be replaced if you like. You can view an exploded view diagram at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and locate item 10 under the "Door" parts listing. The part comes in various colors so make sure you select the correct one.

The door can be easily removed by opening it all the way and lifting straight up at the hinges. The door will come off the hinge pins and can be laid on a flat surface for easier access. Place a layer of towels under the door to prevent damage to the door.

You will need to remove the door handle to get the outer door frame off. To access the door handle mounting screws on MOST microwave ovens, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to carefully pry the plastic up and work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens also have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you may need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Remove the door handle and and locate any screws that may be securing the outer door (front) frame in place. Once you install the new outer door frame, re-install the door handle and carefully re-insert the inner door panel. Gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions about this repair, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

To answer your initial question, the microwave should continue to be safe to use as long as the inner door seal and door glass are intact. Make absolutely sure you reinstall the door components back together properly. Not doing so will render the oven unsafe to use. Refer to the web site I provided as a reference for how the door components go back together.

NOTE: This part is listed a bit cheaper at appliancepartspros.com. Use the part number from the first website I mentioned as your search criteria.

Door seal is missing,

this is a huge issue, without the seal presant, you are being exposed to huge amounts of radiation, do not use the microwave, the glass is not as much as a issue, but you should never use it without the seal, buy a new oven for your safety.........

I need to replace my maytag mmv5000 microwave door assembly

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

GE XL1800 Door

OK, I'm no handy man and I just figured out how to do this. Open the door and remove the black plastic cover surrounding the inside glass. I used a regular flat head screw driver to pop this out.

Now I removed the 3 screws holding the inner panel against the glass on the front door. After removing the screws, the inner panel is held in place by a series of plastic clips. Go around the perimeter and pop the plastic clips out so the inner panel including the mesh comes out of the door.

Now you have complete access to clean the inside of the glass door!

I found it easier to do this operation with the door completely off the microwave, but you should be able to do this with the door in place too.
