Hey Steven, can you be a bit more discriptive of the DVD brand, also where are you trying to use it? Is it external drive or Internal? i DVD is a software or brand by Apple, so it might not work on regular PC or XBOX. If it si a regular DVD drive, there wil an option to change the region to USA (region 1). But be aware, most if not all DVDs allow you to change region only a certain amount of times & usually it tells you how many times you have left.

My Samsung smart tv & my dvd/bluray player recorder I bought at same time. Haven't had blurays til now & wont play at all. Rental ones did now I've bought my own & they don't play! Not tech minded.HELP

Each DVD player is assigned a code for the region in which it's sold. For example USA/Canada are Region 1 players. DVD players will refuse to play discs not coded for its specific region. In effect, this means that a DVD purchased in one country is normally unreadable on a DVD player bought in another region.

If your rental DVDs work in the player then there is nothing wrong with your DVD player. If you have purchased DVDs that do not work the problem is with the DVDs you have, not with the DVD player.

turn on dvd player with no disc, go to setup, arrow over to prefer. using the arrow keys, go right, left, right, left, right, right, left . A blue screen will come up with the region at the bottom arrow down to region then left or right to change region, press ok to save. Works like a charm

Our DVD will not read discs. Some that we bought in asia will work but none rented here in the USA. Is there a switch we are missing?

I'm assuming you bought the DVD recorder in Asia as well. US DVDs are region 1 and won't play on a player/recorder from another region without alteration. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd_regions for a description of DVD regions). There's nothing as simple as a switch unfortunately.

You may be able to find a way of altering your recorder to play all regions (region-free) but you need to be careful when doing this. Here is one person's story of this going wrong with the same model JVC.

A safer alternative may be to buy another recorder in the USA.

I need the code to make my onkyo dv-sp405 region free

Turn on dvd player
Go to setup
Select Initial setting
Move cursor down to Options but do not press enter on your DVD remote (just underlay it)
Then press display button on DVD remote
When region code information is shown on screen
Put in the number 3690 on your DVD remote
The dvd player will automatically switch off
When restarting it is all regions and working fine.

Wrong region

hi!your english is good!!
please try this:hope it helps!
dvp720sa
dvd player on
open tray
(no disk inside)

1. Turn on the player.
2. Open the tray.
3. Press the following sequence on the remote: 9-9-9-9-0
4. The number 0 will appear on the lower left side of your screen.
5. Your player is now region free! Put in a DVD and enjoy!
NOTE: The 0 in the sequence above represents the region code. 0 = region free. If you want to change your player to just a specific region code, replace the 0 with the region number you want.

Wrong Regional Disc.

DVDs are ecoded with region codes to indicate what area of the world they are made for. These codes may be 1,2,3, etc depending on which region they are made for.
DVD player read these codes and if the disc region code does not match the region the device is made for, the player will not play the disc.
Region 1 is for USA so most DVDp players made for use in USA require region 1 discs.
Some DVD players called multi region DVD players can be set to play different region DVDs but they are typically more expr=ensive then one region players and the code must be changed each time a different region disc is played.

Brought a dvd from usa and it wont work on my dvd player

It'll be a wrong region dvd. DVD players have regions as do DVDs. As you said you got the dvd from usa i'm guessing you don't live there. USA is region 1 and your player will most probaly be a different region to this. You could try to hack your player from the following link to make it region free so you don't have this problem. http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks not all dvd players can be hacked though.

Coby 224 wrong disc

you can reset the settings through the menu, its under the advanced option in the menu. however, its not a regional error, if it was in the wrong region, it would say wrong region and not wrong disk, try putting the region back to 1 or 0 or 9, 1 is USA, 9 and 0 are all regions.
