Question about Denon AVR-1803 Receiver
Usually, this is caused by a bad cable connection from the receiver to the TV. Try changing your cables or make sure to replug them tight and then restart both tv and the receiver. Are you using RCA or HDMI cables?

In tv mode the signal that comes from the tv (or box) is stereo; to turn it in surround a special program that transforms it must be activated from the settings.
To activate it press Setup, go down to Auto Surround Mode and set it to ON. Then press the Surround Parameter button till the Virtual is selected.
